About this deal

Never did I EVER think I would get into a fantasy romance series, let alone one set at a war college and involving dragons. In fact, if I were to name the things I would normally avoid in a potential read, it would be this. But, Fourth Wing started intriguing me when I saw that even readers like me (who read a lot of classics and literary fiction) were praising it. Welcome to the brutal and elite world of Basgiath War College, where everyone has an agenda, and every night could be your last . . . Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom's protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret. FIVE. FREAKING. STARS. There is no universe where I could give this book any less of a rating' ***** With fewer dragons willing to bond than cadets, most would kill Violet to better their own chances of success. The rest would kill her just for being her mother’s daughter—like Xaden Riorson, the most powerful and ruthless wingleader in the Riders Quadrant.

Beyond the intrigue, there also remains an overarching theme about the re-telling of history that begins to reveal itself, and in this particular book, it can be summed up simply as “things are not what they seem.” Fourth Wing Trigger Warnings: war, battle, hand-to-hand combat, perilous situations, blood, intense violence, brutal injuries, death, poisoning, graphic language, and sexual activities Because Violet knows the real secret hidden for centuries at Basgiath War College―and nothing, not even dragon fire, may be enough to save them in the end. Yarros is a long-time author, so I’m just thrilled to see her find this success with a series that seems very aligned with herself. (She has a love of history and dragons, and she has Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which the protagonist has.) It just always brings me joy to see authors hit it big commercially later in their careers. Undoubtedly, her life is now forever changed. Now the realtraining begins, and Violet’s already wondering how she’ll get through. It’s not just that it’s grueling and maliciously brutal, or even that it’s designed to stretch the riders’ capacity for pain beyond endurance. It’s the new vice commandant, who’s made it his personal mission to teach Violet exactlyhow powerless she is–unless she betrays the man she loves. The world building in this was phenomenal. I lived, breathed and became a part of the college.' ***** You know when you finish a book, and it leaves an ache in your chest because it was so good, and now it’s over? That’s exactly how I feel after finishing Fourth Wing’ ***** READER REVIEW Welcome to the brutal and elite world of Basgiath War College, where everyone has an agenda, and every night could be your last...

You know when you finish a book, and it leaves an ache in your chest because it was so good, and now it's over? That's exactly how I feel after finishing Fourth Wing' ***** READER REVIEWThe total number of books in the Fourth Wing series (Empyrean) by Rebecca Yarros is five. The first book, Fourth Wing, was published on May 2, 2023. The second book, Iron Flame, will be published on November 7, 2023. Details of books three through five have not yet been released; however, Yarros told Today that the series arc explores “[w]ho’s allowed to tell our history, and what happens when only people in power are the ones who record our history[.]”

Alliances will be forged. Lives will be lost. Traitors will become allies . . . or even lovers. But sleep with one eye open because once you enter, there are only two ways out: graduate or die. I think that what’s made it so universally successful is that she balances the escapism of fantasy, romance, and dragons with the harsh realities of the real world (namely, war and the telling of history). And, she does so with a lot of rich details that make it utterly unique and truly memorable. Yet, with every day that passes, the war outside grows more deadly, the kingdom’s protective wards are failing, and the death toll continues to rise. Even worse, Violet begins to suspect leadership is hiding a terrible secret. In fact, as the first sentence of the book warns, the day on which entry is sought is the deadliest. And even if she makes it through, as her mother, older sister Mira, and older brother Brennan did, only a fraction will live to graduate. Violet herself is petite and frail, so she’ll have to fight extra hard not just to succeed, but also to survive, especially since people like the powerful Wingleader Xaden Riorson have it out for her. He, and many of the others, are only there because of the fallout from their parents’ rebellion, after which Violet’s mother executed them.OVER A QUARTER OF A MILLION READERS HAVE ALREADY GIVEN FOUR T H WING FIVE S T ARS. ARE YOU READY T O ENTER T HE WORLD OF BASGIA T H WAR COLLEGE? Although Violet’s body might be weaker and frailer than everyone else’s, she still has her wits―and a will of iron. And leadership is forgetting the most important lesson Basgiath has taught her: Dragon riders make their own rules.
