This included David Bowie, who spoke passionately about how overlooked the band had been, and about how far ahead of their time they had been. Bowie would bring up Fanny at regular intervals during his last decades, campaigning for the world to ‘revivify’ Fanny. “If that happens, I will feel my work is done,” he concluded. And while small reunions with various members did take place over the years, they were typically one-offs without any real lasting consequences.

Patti Quatro continued to work as a session musician for her sister Suzi and was involved in the reissue of material by the Quatro sisters' early band the Pleasure Seekers. [33] Brie Brandt, later known as Brie Howard-Darling and currently as Brie Darling, had an active post-Fanny career, fronting the bands American Girls, which released one album in 1986, [34] and Boxing Gandhis, which has released four albums since the mid-1990s. [35] She has also acted in films such as 1982's Android [36] and is the mother of Playboy Playmate Brandi Brandt. [35] Quatro and Brandt both toured with Electric Light Orchestra and appeared on the album A New World Record in 1976. [37] [38] All rights reserved. They began to play music together on ukuleles, which helped them gain friends. In high school they formed an all-female band called the Svelts with June on guitar, Jean on bass, Addie Lee on guitar, and Brie Brandt on drums. Brandt left to get married and was later replaced by Alice de Buhr. [3] Some people may think the themes of feminism and ‘girl empowerment’ are too strong. I would beg to differ. Having read June Millington’s autobiography Land of a Thousand Bridges, with its numerous examples of piss-poor treatment and sexist attitudes they had to endure from the very beginning and throughout their active years, I actually think they show great restraint. There are sadly more than enough examples to pull from, and this could so easily have resulted in very angry and bitter songs. The fact that this is turned into a much more positive and encouraging album, where they ultimately want to empower both sexes for the better, is as extraordinary as the people who pulled it off so well.

There's a sad element of "what might have been", but it's better that Fanny gets recognition late than not at all. Listening to 'Legacy,' it's clear that Poco hasn't missed a beat. This is a band that still knows how to make great music."- No Depression Just who is Shinyribs? A few years ago, we started out with a simple idea to become the most artist-friendly record label in the world. From the studio to release day and everything in between, we are passionate about our artists making the music they love, and support their growth at every step of the way. In 2016, Brie Howard joined a live performance by the Millington sisters. This inspired the formation of a new band called Fanny Walked the Earth. [41] An album also titled Fanny Walked the Earth was released in March 2018. The album marks the first time June, Jean, and Brie all recorded at the same time in nearly 50 years. The band was then renamed Fanny, not with a sexual connotation but to denote a female spirit. [7] The initial lineup consisted of June on guitar, Jean on bass, de Buhr on drums, Barclay on keyboards, and Brandt on lead vocals and percussion. Perry dismissed Brandt because he wanted the group to be a self-contained four-piece band like the Beatles. [10] The Millingtons and Barclay all assumed lead vocal duties on alternating songs, while de Buhr sang lead occasionally on later albums.
