Every Chivas Regal whisky has its own unique formula and selection of aged whiskies, with their own character, flavour and taste experience. Chivas Extra 13 Sherry Cask Selection is a rich yet sweet whisky that adds a deeper layer of flavour to the luxurious Chivas house style. A portion of this blended Scotch whisky is matured in Oloroso sherry casks, bringing rich and intense Mediterranean flavours to our whisky. Taste: Gentle with a good amount of juicy pears as well as some apricots, but then there is some sweet ginger as well, followed by orange liqueur from the grain elements. The Rum Casks Finish is sweet and spicy. The nose begins with notes of molasses, dark brown sugar and exotic fruits. it is rich and elegant, without the sweetness overwhelming the flavours.The nose starts off pretty thin, yet complex. Rich notes of orange rind, Spring honey, and rye spice make themselves known. Also present are notes that remind me a little of ivory soap, and then spice cake. Palate Whenever the casks for the Chivas Regal Extra 13 Tequila Cask would arrive from Mexico, Hyslop and a member of his team went out and nose all the individual casks to make sure they were of a required standard. “There’s nothing worse than maturing whisky for many years and then putting it into casks that do something despicable to the whisky. We’re making sure they haven’t gone sour, or if there are any sulphury notes or strange creamy off-notes. But we were pleased with what we found. They were freshly emptied and were able to get some sweet tropical notes of them, which was just perfect.”

Keep in mind that all his quotes pertain to the Tequila release, but much of it can be extrapolated to his team’s approach for all the Chivas Regal Extra 13 releases.
