Yada actually provides a good range of choices when it comes to monitors, from 2.4-inch options for suction mounting through 3.5 and 4.3 all the way up to this 5-inch. That goes to emphasize the fact that, while the size is important, it’s more to do with the space in your vehicle than the viewing experience. If you have a big-ish family car, 5 inches (plus bezel) won’t obscure too much of your forward view so it’s a good choice. The one thing you might want but won't get with the AUTO-VOX V5 is 4K video. For most people, this won't be a deal-breaker, but if you're recording your travels for uses other than insurance purposes, you might want something that records higher quality video.While the exposure of recorded images from both front and rear cameras is excellent when viewed on my computer (see photos attached), the image on the LCD from the rear camera is darker than I’d like, especially when wearing sunglasses on a day with bright sunshine. The mirror is also pretty dark. The camera is attached to a sliding mount, allowing you to extend the camera to the right to get past any potential visual obstacles. Useful for many are Yada’s fitting assistance efforts, including videos, a toll-free helpline (in the USA), and their catalog of professional installers, so fitting shouldn’t be a chore, and the system is 12 or 24V compatible and, once fitted, is triggered automatically by reverse gear. These are the benefits of an established brand and model (the downside is newer designs have higher resolution, but this has all the important features). The touchscreen itself provides a variety of useful functions. To begin with, as we mentioned, you can switch between the front and rear displays. You can also adjust the brightness. Turn it up for daytime driving, and turn it down at night to keep distractions to a minimum. Finally, you can manually adjust the parking lines. They’re drag and drop, which means that adjustment simply requires a slide of your finger. As a result, you can adjust the parking lines as needed for any vehicle on the market. Final Verdict The unit automatically records by default, though you can also stop and start recording at any time. This is especially useful if you're parked but still want to record. I didn’t see these problems with the X2 in this car. This is probably because the X2 used a lithium battery as an internal power source while the new V5 uses a supercapacitor. The internal power source provides enough power to save the last video recording properly when the dashcam switches off. Otherwise, the file would be corrupted and unreadable. The lithium battery in the X2 was more powerful than the supercapacitor. It could power the entire dashcam, including the LCD. The supercapacitor in the V5 only has enough power to take care of the recording system and does not power the LCD. Looking at the pics of the V5 pro it doesn't look like it will be compatible but as you can see in the pic above the clip will unscrew so I'm wondering if I can bodge something up? The only problem then is the plastic trim because the front bit shown in the 1st pic with the red arrow attaches to the casting of the mirror above so that would need to be bodged too.The rear-view camera can operate in low-light environments, and with IP68 grade weather protection shouldn’t struggle with the great outdoors. It does, however, have a narrower field of view than some, but this is a matter of taste; this also means it side-steps any fish-eye distortion. This is a simple and cheap solution which can obtain its power via the cigarette lighter and then needs only one cable to be run to the camera, which clips over the license place. Despite the modest price, the screen can be used in normal and mirrored modes with optional reversing guides and the camera even has ‘Super Night Vision’. Since the dashcam screen also functions as a mirror, unwanted reflections from the interior of the car are unavoidable when using the LCD. You can tilt the dashcam to minimize them, but there is no tilt angle that avoids all reflections when sunlight is streaming through your car windows. All dashcam/mirrors will have this problem. To eliminate reflections completely, you need to apply an anti-glare screen on top of the LCD. You can cut anti-glare film to fit and apply it to the LCD, but then you cannot use the dashcam screen as a mirror. Instead, I cut a piece of rigid anti-glare plastic and attached it with tape at the top, and magnets on the bottom to hold it in place (see attached pictures). Keep in mind that when there are water droplets on the lens in wet weather the camera image is often useless, so in wet weather it’s best to use the dashcam as a mirror. The Auto-Vox V5 Pro ships in three different parts: a front camera, a rear camera, and a GPS antenna. Let’s take a look at each of them in turn. A screen isn't much use in your vehicle if you can't actually see it. The AUTO-VOX V5 has no problems in that department. Despite the mirrored finish, it has no problems with glare. On the off chance that the sun is making it difficult to see, you can always crank up the brightness with the on-screen controls.
V5 PRO - AUTO-VOX
We touched on this at the top, but being limited to 1080p isn't a problem for day-to-day use with the V5. When it comes to what you see on the rear-view mounted display, you wouldn't see a higher resolution anyway. When it comes to recorded files, they looked fine and I can't think of many ways in which higher-resolution would have helped. For the comfort dash, I routed the cable just under the passenger side footwell cover which is very easy to remove. Went up the A piller from there. I removed the ceiling panels to access the main rear wire bundle which runs down the passenger side and ran the rear camera cable alongside this. The hardest part of the install is getting the rear light cable through the rubber tailgate cable access. A long wire feed rod was very helpful. I then drilled a small hole in the top of the inside of the tailgate to pull the cable through. Again the wire feed rod was invaluable here. Looking in through the factory tinted window, you can barely see the camera. It is pretty small and unobtrusive.Great Rearview Mirror Camera, easy install, excellent image quality for day and night use. Takes some getting used to at first due to you seeing a wider angle than you are normally used to, As well you need to account for how close vehicles behind you really are. One positive point is if you adjust your side mirrors correctly there are zero blind spots regarding vehicles next to you. I placed the rear camera to the left of my plate.

Will removing the existing mirror stop anything working - auto lights - auto rain sensor or is all the stuff that makes that work in the stalk above the mirror? Since the camera is always on, I was worried it would not work well at night with headlights behind me. I was wrong. It was amazing at night.
