To date, Poundland has now made offers of employment to over 800 former Wilko colleagues. The exact location of the 71 Wilko stores is unclear at this stage, but the deal means high streets will only be temporarily vacant while they are transformed into Poundland stores. The news also comes a week after Wilko’s other discount chain rival, B&M, bought up to 51 stores which will all be transformed into B&M shops. From this weekend, only 41 stores are left open, with all the last ones standing closing at the same time on Sunday, October 8. Meanwhile, a total of 71 Wilko stores were bought by Poundland while the first 10 rebranded shops reopened last month.
