That means that you’re going to end up with acoustic properties unlike many other devices available on the market. Sure, wood looks stunning, but it also provides added depth and reverb. There are also RCA and optical stereo output connectors for linking to external systems and surround-sound. Headquartered in a small Scottish town (Lanark), Revo designs specialist audio devices for consumers around the UK and across the globe. The tactile feel of the unit combined with its beautiful image makes it hard not to fall in love with the SuperConnect. What’s more, you get real, genuine wood casing with this device – not just wood-effect plastic.We loved the original Revo SuperConnect internet radio (below), but nearly a decade later, the stereo upgrade has taken things to new heights. The SuperConnect Stereo is a certified five-star performer in pretty much every department, serving up superb sound alongside sleek retro-modern looks and a whole raft of features and connectivity options. With the SuperConnect Stereo, you’ll get 30W of clear digital audio from a Class-D amplifier and two BMR speakers inside. This should result in high-performance sound with a wide dispersion. On top of all this, you can adjust EQ settings in the companion app, plug sources in via aux, and set alarms. All Ruark devices have a RotoDial control system that accesses menus by scrolling and then pressing to select. Added to that, there’s a remote control plus an UNDOK app for use on a phone or tablet. It’d be tough to provide a comprehensive Revo SuperConnect DAB radio review without paying some attention to the connectivity and performance aspects of the device.

With Sparks’ This Town Ain’t Big Enough For the Both of Us or Betty Davis’ They Say I’m Different, the bass hogs the limelight and doesn’t sound well-formed, leading the midrange and treble sounding slightly recessed as a result.

Wireless Freedom
Configuring everything from the moment you get your new equipment is a breeze, and navigating 16,000 available radio stations couldn’t be simpler. Everything the business has learned in over 15 years of development appears in this compelling piece of kit. The Revo SuperConnect Stereo is one of the best internet radios when it comes to finding stations and podcasts but it would be great if it incorporated voice search, either stand-alone or through Siri, Google Assistant and Alexa. And, while it’s not really a complaint, you need to be careful about positioning. Placed too close to a wall in an alcove in a corner of our dining room, the bass is magnified, becoming slightly boomy and strident. Still, that’s nothing pulling it forward a few centimetres or a little tinkering in the EQ settings couldn’t fix. It also replaces the well-regarded SuperConnect that launched several years ago, bringing stereo sound to its repertoire. This is undoubtedly an expensive radio, and has German brand Revo done enough not just to produce a ‘modern’ radio but one that also offers enough value? Design

But what if you can’t get a good reception, or can’t find a station that suits you? The best internet radios stream radio over Wi-Fi rather than relying on an old-fashioned aerial, so they’ll work anywhere where you have a decent wireless signal. It’s a likeable presentation from the get-go. Play better quality stations or stream songs from your favourite music app, and you’ll get solidity, detail and dynamic expression in spades. Yes, the R2 is a shade on the warm side of neutral, but never so far as to colour the natural tone and feeling of the songs we play, regardless of genre.
