About this deal

Volume 4 Timeline Figures –, Karl Marx, and George Washington are just some of the figures that you’ll find in this set of timeline figures. The timeline figures cover both world history and American history.

Week 31: Lesson 91-93: Hannibal, Elephants, and the Punic Wars, The Han Dynasty, and the Maccabean RevoltAnyhow, I gathered all my Mystery of History bits and bobs, as well as a few supplementary resources, and I have been plotting and planning how to use them: Week 15: Lessons 43-45: The City of Rome, Isaiah and Micah (Judah’s Prophets), and Israel Falls to Assyria Keep in mind that the writing style is very engaging, and this certainly helps to offset difficulty in the level or amount of content. Occasionally, the author suggests that younger or middle students stop reading at a certain point and that older students continue with material that is deeper or more detailed. Lessons with particularly sensitive content include a note to the teacher at the beginning of the lesson or segment, so you won’t be caught off guard. This helps, but ultimately parents have to decide how much of the material to cover with each student. Week 12: Lessons 34-36: The Phoenicians, The Kingdom of Israel Divides, and Elijah the Fiery Prophet There are no serious scholarly attempts to find the Holy Grail, although it continues to be popular in fiction, being used as a plot device in films like the 1989 movie "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," where it was used to heal Indiana Jones after he was shot by the Nazis.

Author Susan Wise Bauer writes with an engaging narrative style that depicts the old way of passing on oral history. She loves to dive into interesting tad-bits about famous people and average people alike so you can be immersed in the story. Her books do not read like a traditional textbook at all, and I would categorize SOTW as more of a living book than even MOH. Middle school students could use it as a spine and jumping off into more research or reading or writing about the content. You could definitely use this curriculum to teach multiple ages together from K-8, requiring more analysis or written work from your older children. Both Volumes III and IV present lessons for 28 weeks, but it might take longer than that to complete them. The readers forVolume III and Volume IV have more text than Volume II and significantly more than Volume I. Hobar says the target audience for Volume III is primarily grades four and up, but Volume III seems to me best for grades seven through twelve simply because of the breadth and depth of information covered. Volume IV was written for grades seven through twelve but seems especially good for high school. As author Linda Hobar notes in the preface to the Student Reader, its coverage of wars and philosophy makes it inappropriate to include younger students in a number of lessons. All of this can be scheduled as best suits your family. A number of possible scheduling suggestions for different levels are found near the beginning of each Companion Guide. Volume I: Creation to the Resurrection We believe that such only are real believers as endure unto the end; that their persevering attachment to Christ is the grand mark which distinguishes them from superficial professors; that a special Providence watches over their welfare; and they are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation.

We finished Volume 2 in about nine months. This year, we did 4-6 lessons per week. Normally, I don’t try to beat the calender, but two of my students were set to graduate by May, and we wanted to finish the book before then. Our next two volumes will go a little more slowly. Copywork Volume 1 includes 108 lessons which are divided out over 36 weeks. There are pre-tests, activities, exercises, worksheets, and tests included in the book that we have, which is the first edition. The Companion Guide has extensive suggestions for creating a timeline or a timeline notebook. The timeline-creation process can be as simple or complex as you wish.

Volume I has lessons for 36 weeks. It relies heavily on scripture since the Bible is a source for much of what we know about ancient times. Other than that, the historical information is all presented within this book as it would be in a textbook. Aside from the atlases or WonderMaps, no other reference works are required for this study unless older students are pursuing research activities. In all of the volumes, Linda Lacour Hobar emphasizes God’s hand in history, tracing His sovereignty throughout all of human history. A total of 90 lessons are included; 15 for every creative day in the Genesis account. The first 12 are “normal” lessons and the last 3 are challenge lessons. Depending on how much science you wish to teach in your homeschool, there are enough lessons to cover every other day for the length of a school year, or, you can finish the book by only doing two lessons a week (and skipping the challenge lessons). And the MOH curriculum makes it very easy to do this because at the end of each lesson, the optional assignments or activities are divided out by level. So, you can clearly see which activities your younger children will do and what your older children can be responsible to accomplish.
