About this deal

There’s no shortage of oys in the world but Jewish News takes every opportunity to celebrate the joys too, through projects like Night of Heroes, 40 Under 40 and other compelling countdowns that make the community kvell with pride. It was an intense but generally incredible experience appearing on television,” Ms Poster, 25, told the JC. “Even though in the show our appearance is only 13 minutes long, we were actually there for over an hour and a half of pretty intense grilling. It’s critical to know your business inside and out. But we knew this going in and came prepared.” Jewish News holds our community together and keeps us connected. Like a synagogue, it’s where people turn to feel part of something bigger. It also proudly shows the rest of Britain the vibrancy and rich culture of modern Jewish life. Speaking to The Mirror, the group shared what they believe helped them in the Den, and secrets of the show viewers might be unaware of - including the very short notice they had. 'We were told only five days in advance'

In the 16 months since launching, PerfectTed has been retailed through 3,000 distribution points across nine countries, including 450 Holland & Barrett outlets in the UK. It has just become part of Tesco’s meal deal in 1,200 stores. Full of beans and youthful energy, founders Marisa Poster and Teddie Levenfiche served up their matcha energy drink brand PerfectTed in the den. It was a clean sweep for the founders, who received offers from all five dragons, with Steven Bartlett and Peter Jones winning the negotiations. It has since gained listings in 3,000 distribution points, including 600 Holland & Barrett stores, Whole Foods and Planet Organic, as well as M&S sushi counters and food-to-go operators such as Joe & the Juice. Marisa and Teddie met on their first day at the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn). They both went on to have successful careers in finance – Marisa in real estate finance with stints at Starwood Capital Group and Teddie worked as an associate consultant at Bain & Company. It was while putting in the long hours that they discovered the benefits of matcha as a healthy alternative to coffee. Our drinks are made from organic, ceremonial grade matcha sourced directly from local farms in Uji, Japan, REAL fruit juices (not from concentrate), and British water. It's that simple. I said during the show that our goal is world domination and I stand by my statement,” Ms Poster said. “The future is natural energy so these large players already in the market will have to keep up to meet the changing needs of consumers.”

A friend mentioned that matcha was caffeinated and it had loads of other health benefits. Obviously, this sounded way too good to be true but when I did try it, it really had a almost life changing effect on me." Marisa is responsible for advertising and marketing, Teddie for operations and sales, and Levi, also a UCS alumni, for the financial side of the business, making them the perfect team – or make that perfect match(a). He and his brother Levi met Ms Poster, originally from New York, when they all attended university in Pennsylvania. The trio identified a business opportunity for a healthier plant-based energy drink that avoids the post-caffeine crash often associated with other energy drink brands. The drink is 100% natural with NO additives, preservatives, or added sugar, and each can contains 80mg of caffeine – as well as being 7 kcals per 100ml. Also, PerfectTed donates 1% of its sales to nonprofits. As a brand, we’re dedicated to making higher-quality, functional plant-based food & drink more accessible to all, and our drinks are just the start! With 60mg of caffeine per can, our PerfectTed Matcha Energy will challenge traditional energy drinks using an entirely plant-based recipe, free of additives, preservatives, and artificial ingredients.

PerfectTed wanted to go directly to the source. Buying directly from farmers in Uji, Japan, allows the company to maintain a closer relationship with its suppliers and avoid the inflated prices that come with going through multiple wholesalers. It also helps the founders ensure that farmers are compensated fairly and that the products are grown in the best conditions. Its three-strong range is made using 100% natural ingredients, with no additives, preservatives or added sugar. The combination of matcha green tea, sparkling water and fruit juice gives each can 80mg of caffeine, which is equivalent to a Red Bull.

PerfectTed’s three-strong range is made using00% natural ingredients, with no additives, preservatives or added sugar They loved that we were local; it was actually an amazing moment where it was local supporting local. We've built a national brand off of local relationships." They describe how would batch-make big jugs to get them through a busy week but needed a high quality on-the-go solution to stay energised. Strategy: like marathoners plan the pace of each mile to optimize for energy, entrepreneurs must tactically balance resources and timing to have the biggest impact.

How’s that going? “We have been working with Steven very closely,” says Teddie. “He’s an amazing supporter of the brand. We’re such huge fans of him and it’s through listening to his podcast that we have been able to get through the challenges of the first 16 months in business, so to have him on board as an investor, mentor and adviser is immensely helpful.” He adds: “There’s definitely an extra element to our brand now as everything we do is a reflection of Steven and his own brand – we’re incredibly motivated to prove him right for investing in us.” Despite coming from fields like consulting and finance, the three friends wanted to do something that would have a real social impact, even if it was out of their comfort zones. “A lot of people, when they graduate from Penn, they're like, ‘Oh, I'll do investment banking or consulting or jobs I'm not happy with for two years,’ but two years is a really long time in your life,” Teddie says. “And it was longer than I wanted to spend doing something that I wasn't passionate about.” Launched in 2021, PerfectTed (the name is a play on ‘perfected’ and ‘perfect ten’) was born from a desire to bring the green-tea-powered energy drinks – made with matcha and flavoured with real fruit – to the masses. They have managed to get the range into more than 1,000 Tesco stores nationwide, plus Holland & Barrett, Planet Organic, Selfridges and Joe & The Juice, among other well-known retailers. There are three flavours – apple raspberry, pineapple yuzu, and pear ginger. The company also sells ceremonial-grade matcha powder.MP: We were actually meant to be making the drinks for the first time ever with our commercial recipe in a small sample tank and the tank set on fire and was out of commission for about two-and-a-half months. PerfectTed was created with a mission to transform the energy industry with delicious drinks, using simple, 100% natural ingredients with no additives, preservatives, or added sugar, just all-natural energy. Powered by organic, ceremonial grade matcha, an antioxidant-rich, Japanese matcha green tea, PerfectTed contains 80mg caffeine (equivalent to a Red Bull or small cup of coffee) and a more enduring and stable energy source.
