About this deal

The Kirkland Signature Asolo Prosecco Superiore DOCG is a prosecco sparkling wine that is made from Glera grapes originating from Asolo in Veneto, Italy. This bottle is only available in Costco and it hails from vineyards located in the Veneto region, close to Italy’s Alps area. The second fermenting procedure that forms bubbles takes place in a large pressurized tank rather than within the bottle itself. The name “ Prosecco” was originally used just to refer to the grape, but today it is applied to the wine produced from this variety.

You will know that you are consuming a champagne from Manuel Janisson as it will be labeled somewhere on the bottle, even if it is in the smallest possible letters. This means that the second fermenting process that results in the bubbles takes place in a large pressurized tank rather than inside the bottle itself. Actually, Costco items are created by some of the very “name brand” products you pay extra for when passing over the Kirkland one. This sparkling wine is a current and typical example of the style, with an 11% alcohol content making it excellent for sharing with friends at any type of social gathering. Most of the cheaper champagnes on the market may not have come anywhere close to France, let alone in the Champagne region.

The acidity is also modest, making it a nice match for spicy cuisine or even as a light drink on its own. Somewhat interestingly, for a bottle of budget champagne, this product actually does have its roots in champagne. We will talk more about that shortly. The 15% remaining grapes can be made from varieties such as Glera Lunga, Pinot Grigio, and Pinot Noir. Importation Process The Kirkland Prosecco is a DOCG wine, the highest quality designation that a Prosecco can have because it’s both controlled (controllata) and guaranteed (guarantita). The difference between a DOC Prosecco and a DOCG Prosecco is that the latter has been approved by a tasting panel, and therefore the wine is guaranteed to taste as it should. The wine is also designated “superiore” which means that is has 0.5% higher alcohol content than it would otherwise.

Misa Imports is responsible for the importation process of wine from Italy to Kirkland facilities. The company utilizes innovative logistics to ensure a smooth importation process of the wine.

2020 Kirkland Signature California Pinot Grigio

The remaining 15% must be composed of one of six distinct varietals, including Verdiso, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Grigio, Glera Lunga, and Perera. When it comes down to it, not many Costco customers were surprised that the Kirkland Asolo prosecco was a product of Italian-grown grapes.
