This is an attractive compact loudspeaker with a 130mm bass/midrange driver, a 29mm tweeter dome and a rear port. The speaker is, therefore, ideal for a small to medium sized room, a teenager’s room, a dining area, guest room, better garden house or weekend home. The Oberon series is intended to inherit and improve upon the „Zensor“ series. For the price-conscious beginner, there is already the even more affordable „Spektor“ series. So, to be accurate, after seven extremely successful years, “Zensor” has actually been replaced twice. The oversized 29 mm ultra-lightweight soft dome tweeter was specifically developed for the Oberon series, combining well-proven technologies from our existing Dali speakers with new features. The large size of the membrane lets the tweeter generate higher sound pressure with less excursion, keeping the voice-coil motion to a controlled minimum. The tweeter front plate near the dome has been designed with similar geometry to the Opticon and Rubicon tweeters to create the optimal working conditions for the soft dome. This results in extended frequency response, wide dispersion and low colouration. Optimised Cabinet Any extended warranties offered by Peter Tyson are free. We do not include any form of insurance terms such as accidental damage or loan equipment cover. On the one hand we have a fabric dome that is already capable of extraordinary dynamic performance due to its size and lightness, on the other hand the DALI-typical cone diaphragm of the bass-midrange driver is made of paper and – now– somewhat more subtle wood fibers. The distortion-reducing SMC concept, adapted from the larger loudspeaker series, for the magnetic drive that is „baked“ from the corresponding powder mass, is now expected to also score points in the 400 Euro class – yes even to cause a small sensation.

The iron ferrite forms the lower base of the pole cylinder, toppedofwith 10 mm SMC disk to crown the pole piece. This combination minimises the negative effects of theiron,while placing the SMC disk right in the main working area of the 4-layer voice coil. This placement ensures the maximum effect from the SMC on the voice coils environment, resulting in a greatly improved constant flux field. Easy IntegrationDon’t get me wrong, the Oberon 3 can resolve bass notes well and it does not sound muddy, but if bass grunt matters to you, it may disappoint in this space. It is also worth mentioning that Elac has since upgraded theB6 to Debut 2.0 B6.2, so the revision could sound a whole lot different, and better perhaps. The cabinet construction of the Oberon 3 is composed of high-density CNC machined MDF board - dressed in carefully selected high-grade vinyl. The very rigid construction of the Oberon 3 cabinet is due to solid bracings across the inside of the cabinet for reinforcement. This improves the stiffness and practically eliminates resonance within the cabinet. The Dali Oberon 3 delivers the large sound of a floorstanding speaker in a compact stand-mount cabinet. The Oberon 3 also makes a great sounding shelf mounted speaker.

With high resolution material, there were several occasions the Oberon 3 delivered a very palpable experience – something I really did not expect to hear from stand-mount speakers at this price point. Oberon 3 can handle a max power of 150 watts RMS from the amp the whereas Oberon 1 has a max power handling value of 100 watts RMS, 50 watts less than the Oberon 3.

Unfortunately, our Installation Service excludes all gas appliances. It is the customer’s responsibility to find a gas safe engineer to connect the appliance. Any work conducted by a third part gas safe engineer will be at the customer’s expense and we will not accept any liability for their work. Larger rivals will have more scale and sonic authority, but they won’t be anywhere near as accommodating as these Dalis when it comes to placement or blending into a room. It’s the Oberons’ ability to reveal so much information, but also arrange it in a musically cohesive way that really makes them shine. Verdict
