About this deal

Dimple grips are small divots in the shoulder of the bowl. They are often circular, but can be oval, square or oblong in shape. Even weight distribution: The design of palm grips allows for even weight distribution across your hand, reducing the strain on specific fingers or areas of your hand and promoting a more balanced delivery. Some bowlers may have a primary grip that they use for the majority of their shots, with occasional switches to a different grip for specific shots or conditions. Others may switch grips more frequently based on their shot selection or personal preference. There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to switching grips mid-game, as it largely depends on your individual playing style, comfort level, and the specific demands of the game at hand.

Ungripped bowls are becoming less and less popular, but if you’ve used them for a while you may find grip patterns uncomfortable. The pattern within this channel can be anything. In the example above, the grip pattern is Aero’s “Zigzag”, but you can find other embedded grips with dimples (for example Taylor’s Xtreme grip) or crescents. Many elements influence the sort of grip you choose. The following are the most important ones. Bowls Grip style If you’re considering other standard density bowls from Taylors or even Drakes Pride, it’s worth pointing out what makes the Grippa stand-out. The main feature of the bowl being its revolutionary crescent-shaped, which greatly improves the ability to handle the bowl and play consistently in wetter conditions and on wetter greens.

To see and compare the Draw Lines for the d-tec, Professional/Pro-50 and XP Bowls see the Bias Performance Chart above or the Drakes Pride Bias Performance video below. The Grippa has come to be one of the most popular Taylor bowls for crown green players, and it’s very easy to see why. Developed in partnership with crown green expert Roy Armson, the Grippa is a bowl that delights many players in its feel and movement.

The crescent grip pattern is similar to the dimple, but is far less common. Example of the crescent gripTaylors is still very much a Scottish family business, with a factory and visitor centre in Glasgow, although it was recently taken over by the Heron family in 1992. Taylors also acquired the Greenz brand in 2006, enabling them to add high quality shoes to their product portfolio, many of which we also sell at Bowls World.

Fact greens require more of a “touch” approach. Many bowlers I have discussed this with recommend a grip where the finger tips are predominantly used – such as the claw grip.

5. Best Long Nose Locking Pliers—IRWIN VISE Long Nose Locking Pliers

Firstly, make sure you have the right size bowl. There is a common mindset in bowls that “bigger is better”, which is true. A bigger bowl carries more weight, this helps with weight control. Also a heavier bowl takes more energy to be moved. This forces your opponent to use more weight when trying to remove one of your shots. The dimple grip is the most common type of grip. You will find most club bowlers will have dimple grips on their bowls. Example of dimple grips If you decide to switch grips during a game, it’s crucial to maintain focus and concentration, especially during the transition. Practice the switch in advance, ensure a smooth and efficient grip change, and take a few practice shots to get comfortable with the new grip before executing your desired shot. With practice and experience, you’ll develop the ability to seamlessly switch between grips, enhancing your adaptability and versatility on the greens. 4. How often should I replace my grip? Finger grips, as the name implies, focus on enhancing finger control during the delivery. These grips feature small grooves or ridges that provide additional traction for your fingers, allowing for more precise movements and improved accuracy. Finger grips are often used by experienced bowlers who have mastered their technique and want to fine-tune their control. Let’s explore the advantages and disadvantages of finger grips in more detail. 👌

Wet conditions are the hardest to play in – at least from your grip stand point. They will test your grip and bowl size selection like no other element.Consequently, Taylor lawn bowls have a well deserved reputation for accuracy and consistency. For instance, the governing body allows a maximum weight difference between different bowls in a set of 15 grams. Taylors work to a standard producing no more than 3 grams difference.
