Century Golem Edition an Endless World is the not-so-snappy title of an actually-quite-snappy game by Emerson Matsuuchi from PlanB Games. The sixth in the series of Century games follows the original trilogy of Spice Road, Eastern Wonders and a New World to be the concluding chapter of the reworking of the three in Golem guise. Golem Of The Century Despite the decisions on display I never felt under or overwhelmed. Whether my plans were in tact or had to be adapted there was nearly always something I wanted to do and more importantly was worth doing. At four players the game positively sprints by as players are a turn-taking blur of card and crystal grabbing before cashing in. Some players slow this down but by in large when your turn comes round you know exactly what you want to do. A re-imaging of the third game in the series Century: A New World (the similar naming is not at all confusing…), it takes its somewhat pastel-like spice trading theme and bedazzles it with gems and incredible looking golems, while leaving the gameplay untouched. And as the space has filled, the quality bar has gone up and up. Azul is really a pretty fun game. So is Photosynthesis, which belongs in this niche. Kingdomino is brilliantly accessible. Codenames has that fun party vibe. There are just ... much better games around in the "gray space" than Century. If you claim the leftmost or second leftmost Point card, take one copper or silver token from above that card. If you take the last copper token, slide the pile of silver tokens so it is now above the leftmost Point card. Designed by Specter Ops creator Emerson Matsuuchi, the Century series began with 2017’s Century: Spice Road, in which players travelled the famous Silk Road to deliver various spices, represented by cubes. Each of the two to five players became caravan owners in search of their fortune, with the option to establish trading routes, acquire more spices, sell their wares or rest along the road by playing cards and spending cubes.This tile placement game essentially involves building a map, with each player taking it in turns to draw a tile at random and being tasked with placing it adjacent to other tiles in a way that makes sense. For example, a tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or a combination of more than one of these, and cities must be connected to cities, roads to roads, et cetera. Place a pile of copper tokens equal to the number of players x2 above the first (leftmost) Point card C. produce gems, upgrade gems, trade gems or pay gems for a Golem card. If another player is already there you must place one more trader that they have and return their traders to their pool. The Bonus tile points for collecting sets of Golems can add significantly to your score. Gameplay then is a balance between going for Golems with high scores, good help or good set combinations.
