About this deal

Also called ‘The First Scion of Sigmar’, the gigantic, metal-winged Celestant-Prime is the first Stormcast Eternal ever to have been forged by Sigmar. He leads all Lord-Commanders, and only answers to the God-King himself. One thing I don't think has worked its way into your understanding is scale. AoS is flat out bigger then Warhammer Fantasy. You could fit the entire world of Malus into a tiny part of a single realm. That is how massive that universe is. That is how many 'Cities of Sigmar' there are. That is how many Skaven there are. He gets two gryph hounds, which are more useful than ever with the aura of their Warning Cry expanded a bit. Definitely an auto include in a ranged army. Knight-Relictor A storm of celestial energy swirls around the Celestant-Prime's feet, granting him mystic insights that aid him in battle. The other 2 aren’t as exciting to talk about. The limiting factor is the once per battle on all of them, which is fine but it means you need to go big and I’m not sure if all these quite get there. Except Final Thunderstrike, ouch!

I’m not big on “monster hunter” factions. They fulfill a niche you might not know will help until the game begins. This has a lot of the same problems. The command ability and trait are solid though. As with any Age of Sigmar faction, there is a swathe of characters available to bolster your Stormcast Eternals army. Here’s a run down of the biggest, shiniest names:

On the Field

I think the decision on which is better is far more difficult to choose now. Deploying mid-game anywhere on the table (more than 9” away of course) with half your army is still going to be core to Stormcast Eternals, always has been. Most of them aren’t very fast and a large part of their value is being able to come in from anywhere. Watchful Guardians on the other hand is a bit of a slow burn. Its effect only counts for battleline but late game when there’s fewer models on the field counting as three times your size is going to make an impact and potentially hand you the victory.

And what I'm also saying is this: "This is from AoS, so it wins since AoS is stronger", is not accurate. A godbeast can be inferior to skjalandir. Gotrek can come from WHF and no longer have his axes, but still kill stuff just as well as before. If not better. Kairos isn't stronger in AoS than in WHF, like always, the power of daemons wanes and strengthens. cheth: Well yes, WHF Chaos Warriors. I think/suspect that AoS Chaos Warriors are meant to be a bit more powerful than their Old World predecessors (since the overall scale/power level in AoS is higher), and Stormcast are on par with them by design. They're also Space Marine level if you take Mordhau's word for it. The Annihilators in the Dominion box are a bit of a dud. Sure a 2+ save is scary but with 3 models and no ward what are you going to do? You can’t hold points so an opponent can simply ignore you or hit you with mortals. These are not these guys. It would be poor storytelling for it to be Karl Franz. It would be even worse from an AoS metanarrative, as the Prime becomes a character that new fans of AoS have literally no connections to. I'd honestly be dissapointed if it were him. I get that it's cool, in a sense. But it's not Franz. Verdict: On the one hand, this unit made me have to do maths. On the other, dear god they look cool. If you ever want a hero to not die, here’s your shot.

None

The Stormcast Eternals have a massive roster of character models; four types of battleline troops (not counting the new ones from Dominion); various magical attaché units from the Sacrosanct Chambers; four flavours ofheavy cavalry riding hulking, reptilian Dracoth mounts; and a hell of a lot more besides – and we won’t know which of them are ‘Good’ and ‘Bad’ (competitively speaking) until the new book comes out. So, follow your heart for the time being – there’ll always be time to tailor your army later. You have a lot of Artefacts, broken down into weapons, armor and relics anyone can take and smaller tables for specific models. Storm-Forged Weapons First of the Stormcasts, the Celestant-Prime embodies Sigmar’s storm. He descends with the force of the thunderbolt, wielding Ghal Maraz to strike down all in his path while summoning punishing meteor showers. Unless Sigmar hung around to Karl Franz' soul for thousands of years, there's no way it's him. This happened before Sigmar became a fully fledged god (when he grabbed his hammer). This happened before the Mortal Realms were a thing. This happened before the pantheon of Sigmar. This happened before the chaos invasion, the battle of the burning skies, the retreat to azyr. This all happened before the Stormcast were even a twinkling in his lightning-wreathed eyes. Compared to many armies that would come

to go around, potentially for any Hero on a mount. We mark them when they’re limited to a specific type of mount. We’ll talk about some interesting ones. The new Stormdrake Guard have had a lot of hype with the promise that they could become battleline if a Draconis or Stardrake is the general, opening options for a an all dragon army. The good news? It’s good! For rules purposes, the caster and this endless spell are treated as a single model in the caster’s army that uses the caster’s warscroll as well as the endless spell rules ( core rules, 19.3). A WIZARD on a Dais Arcanum has a Move characteristic of 12" and can fly. He was set up really well - the literal FIRST Stormcast ever created, bearing the mighty hammer of Ghal Maraz that Sigmar himself once used, appearing on battlefields to decisively turn the tides, who ALL other Stormcast answer to. A cool premise - except, he never seemed to grow beyond that premise. The majority of discussion based around him is who he could possibly have once been, not who he IS. This is not fault of anyone discussing this - if anything, it’s the fault of GW for giving people so little else to work with. The Celestant-Prime is nothing less than the Storm of Sigmar itself. Those who meet the Celestant-Prime in battle face first hand the full brunt of the God-King’s wrath, for he is the Avenging Angel of Azyr, the Bearer of the World-Hammer, and the First Scion of Sigmar. [1a] Stormcast have a lot of units especially in the Leader department. We can’t hope to cover all of them (yet, look out for an updated Start Competing in a few weeks) so we will focus on what’s new and what has changed radically. There are two general trends I noticed: First, Rend has gotten more plentiful. Games Workshop seems to anticipate All out Defense + Mystic Shield + Finest Hour might make things a bit too tanky so we start seeing a lot more Rend -1 where there was none, and Rend -2 where -1 was. So if I don’t mention your favorite unit they may have more rend. Second, everything got more expensive, which is a tough one since Stormcast were not exactly cheap to start with. Don’t worry though, a lot of these units will make their points and this doesn’t put them at much of a disadvantage. Allegiance Ability: Only the Faithful –Their famous battlecry, roll a die anytime a spell affects a Hallowed Knights unit. On a 6+ you can ignore that spell. Word of caution, as this was the first attempt at this ability GW poorly worded it and it doesn’t say you can choose to roll a die, you have to. This has never been errata’d so we can assume it’s here to stay. That means your own spells could potentially fizzle out. Be careful. C+ Your idea that 'AoS isn't stronger then Fantasy' is... wrong. No if ands or buts. Its wrong. To debate otherwise is just ludcrious. That does not mean you can't take 'lower end' or 'middle end' things from AoS and match them against certain elements in fantasy, you certainly can, but one setting is far higher on the power scale, over all, then the other. The Lord-Imperatant proudly continues the noble Stormcast tradition of wearing your pet’s parent as a cloak , being accompanied by a Gryph-hound who is obviously going to be on their very best behaviour to avoid a similar fate.

Instead of setting up this unit on the battlefield, you can place it to one side and say that it is set up in the heavens as a reserve unit. If you do so, at the end of your movement phase, you must say if this unit will remain in reserve or if it will strike from the heavens.

Stormcast Eternals Stormhosts

Blazing with Celestial might, the Celestant-Prime raises his sceptre before letting it fall, causing comets to rain from above.
