About this deal

It was widely believed that the flag was raised by George Washington's army on the 2 January 1776, at Prospect Hill in Charlestown (now part of Somerville), near his headquarters at Cambridge, Massachusetts, (across the Charles River to the north from Boston), which was then surrounding and laying siege to the British forces then occupying the city. [5] It is also stated that the flag was interpreted by British military observers in the city under commanding General Thomas Gage, as a sign of surrender. [6] [7] However, some scholars dispute the traditional account and conclude that the flag raised at Prospect Hill was probably the flag of Great Britain, [8] though subsequent research supports the contrary. Three trenches will be dug to assess the condition of the post alignment/timber causeway. These are designed to look at both the vertical and horizontal timbers. Fen skating is a traditional form of skating in the Fenland. The National Ice Skating Association was set up in Cambridge in 1879, they took the top Fen skaters to the world speedskating championships where James Smart (skater) became world champion. [29] It’s shameful for a Cambridge college to consider them as such. Caius cannot claim to be an inclusive, supportive environment for its LGBT students whilst pandering to intolerant, illiberal views.” Dwelling Commitments in Cambridgeshire" (PDF). Participation Of Local Areas (POLAR4) – a measure originally developed by HEFCE which ranks areas based on the rate at which young people have historically progressed to higher education. These ranks are then used to divide areas into quintiles from 1 (least represented) to 5 (most represented); the quintile of a student’s home postcode is indicated against their application.Item: an ancient silver seal given by Richard the Second, King of England, engraved with a little pig or boar. The majority of fellows at the College’s General Meeting voted in favour of flying only the College flag. This decision was ratified by the College Council, despite opposition from JCR and MCR presidents.

All the data we use are derived either from publicly available sources, the DfE, UCAS or from information provided by applicants in their application. These three types of contextual data are presented to our academic assessors in the form of several ‘flags’. This system enables us to assess applicants holistically, and may result in ‘flagged’ applications receiving particularly careful attention during the initial application stage. These ‘flags’ are also used during the winter and summer ‘pooling’ stages of our admissions process, where applicant files are examined by other Colleges to ensure that the best applicants receive an offer of a place regardless of the College to which they applied or were allocated. Furthermore, some of these ‘flags’ have been used as part of our eligibility criteria for August Reconsideration Pool. Historic England is funding the project to create a management plan for the protection, understanding and enjoyment of Flag Fen and this historic landscape for generations to come. Week Two saw us starting the week by concentrating on uncovering and defining more of the timbers that make up the wooden causeway. In our last blog we described the challenges of doing this, as waterlogged wood is a delicate material requiring a great deal of care and attention to expose and clean. This regressive decision is of huge detriment to work to improve access, diversity and equality by so many at Caius over the past years.” With the bulk of the sediment removed we turned our attention to cleaning up the exposed wood, ready for it to be recorded. This process mainly involved making sure that the extent of every piece of timber could be clearly seen and using gentle sprays of water to both keep the wood wet and to remove any remaining sediment.
