About this deal

This robust L-series 70-200mm telephoto zoom lens is a favourite with professional photographers, a modern classic redesigned, it’s now even better in bright light and engineered to perform in the most challenging conditions. A maximum f/2.8 aperture offers plenty of control over depth of field and – in combination with a 3.5-stop Image Stabilizer to counteract natural camera shake – makes low-light photography simple. Image quality is excellent, with superb sharpness right across the frame, a great choice for our highest resolution EOS cameras. Benefits This original non-IS 70-200 is a sleeper of a lens. It's the lens to get for anyone on a budget shooting sports and action, or shooting on a tripod. The lens isn't big or heavy enough to need a tripod collar; I just attach my camera to the tripod and I'm good. Of course that's just me; do what you want; just don't use this lens for years hand-held with the collar in your way.

The 2.5m-∞ position prevents the lens from autofocusing closer than 2.5 meters (8 feet). Use this setting only if you're having a problem with the lens attempting to focus on irrelevant close items, or if for some reason the lens is "hunting" from near to far looking for distant subjects.Macro performance is the best of any 70-200/2.8 because not only does this lens focus closer than any other, it doesn't cheat and shorten its actual focal length to focus closely, so we get what looks to be about twice as close compared to every other 70-200/2.8 from Nikon.

Lens sharpness doesn't matter much, but it sure distracts amateurs who confuse lens sharpness with picture sharpness. Botts' Dots, 21 November 2016. Sigma's teleconverters are not available for E-mount, however, and Sony restricts its converters to Sony lenses. If you have an E-mount camera and a teleconverter is something you like to use, you need to spend more on the FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II or FE 70-200mm F4 Macro G OSS II. Hit your productivity targets with inkjet and laser printers that are a perfect fit for any workspace – including home offices. The best protective filter is the 77mm Hoya multicoated HD3 UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints. Canon currently makes way more than four 70-200mm lenses. Take your choice of f/4 or f/2.8 and with or without image stabilization, and now for mirrorless or for both mirrorless and EOS EF. If you're worrying about this lens' sharpness, you're probably not a seasoned full-time pro. This, and all Nikon's previous 80-200mm and 70-200mm lenses, have been the standards against which all other professional zooms have been judged for many, many decades.

This L lens is optimized for 35mm film and full-frame digital, and of course works on 1.3x and 1.6x Canon cameras. Personally I'm a slave to IS because I won't use a tripod, so for myself I bought the 70-200mm f/4 L IS version with IS. SPORT is for use in a helicopter, sand rail, or motorcycle. SPORT is also OK for hand-holding while still, and intended for use from an unstable platform. An inch (symbol: in) is a unit of length. It is defined as 1⁄12 of a foot, also is 1⁄36 of a yard. Though traditional standards for the exact length of an inch have varied, it is equal to exactly 25.4 mm. The inch is a popularly used customary unit of length in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom. Centimeters to inches formula and conversion factor

The lens' four AF buttons are much easier to reach than using the one on the camera. The lens' AF buttons are easy to use while holding the camera in any orientation. This would print 44" wide at this magnification. How did I get these colors? Simply by being observant and setting my 5D's saturation to +2 or +3. It goes to +4. This is exactly how it came from the camera. Flare and ghosts are typical for a modern complex zoom. You'll never see any unless you go out of your way to shoot directly into the California desert sun, and then only if you deliberately put something dark on the other side of the frame against which to highlight any ghosts. Flare and ghost performance is nothing out of the ordinary. You won't see any under normal use, and if you try to blind yourself looking at the sun, you'll be able to excite some.

The focus ring is well damped and super-smooth. It's easy to move it with a fingertip, but due to its damping, won't ever move that fast manually. The very best protective filter is the 77mm Hoya multicoated HD3 UV which uses hardened glass and repels dirt and fingerprints, and is also multicoated. I tested the E-mount version of the 70-200mm with the Sony a7R IV and a7R V. The a7R IV is a camera I own, whereas Lensrentals provided the a7R V so I could more easily conduct side-by-side tests with the Tamron 70-180mm G2. The Sigma balances well on both bodies, but I still found the extra support of a baseplate helpful.
