Fandango! é o quarto álbum de estúdio da banda ZZ Top, lançado em 1975 metade ao vivo e metade de estúdio. It's not a Tres Hombres or an Eliminator, but it's still a great, fun album. Well worth a listen, but avoid the 80s remixed album where possible. 8/10.In the late 1980s the album was released on CD with the studio recordings being digitally remixed and the original 1975 mix version was discontinued. The remix version created controversy among fans because it significantly changed the sound of the instruments, especially the drums. [ citation needed] The remix version was used on all early CD copies and was the only version available for over 20 years.

But not before providing some amazing photographic evidence for the inner sleeve – in part to help explain their long absence from recording, and in part to inform fans that ZZ's long-awaited return was in fact a a half-live, half-studio proposition. The only reason it was remade was to scoop up a boatload of money from a more modern and accepting audience. But it is a completely different song than the other one that sounds slapped together in a few takes without a thought for the meaning. Straight off the bat with Nasty Dogs, my feet started tapping and my head nodded along to the groove. Add to that a fantastic guitar solo and bingo. It hits the spot. Blue Jeans Blues conforms to the template of fairly standard blues guitar lament but it's a good example of its kind. While the fandango is generally defined, according to Merriam-Webster, as a “lively Spanish or Spanish-American dance in triple time that is usually performed by a man and a woman to the accompaniment of guitar and castanets,” it can also mean just simple “tomfoolery.” While ZZ Top have never really been known to play anything close to resembling music that would inspire a fandango as defined in the former, they definitely have been known to engage in the latter.John Davidson: A tale of two sides. She not only stayed alive, she turned her hard beginnings around, became self sufficient, successful and someone with respect for herself. She didn't let the naysayers and judgers stop her. She's the one sitting in the drivers seat at the end. The original line-up was formed in Houston and consisted of Gibbons, bassist/organist Lanier Greig, [5] and drummer Dan Mitchell. [5] The name of the band was Gibbons' idea. The band had a small apartment covered with concert posters and he noticed that many performers' names used initials. Gibbons particularly noticed B.B. King and Z. Z. Hill and thought of combining the two into "ZZ King", but considered it too similar to the original name. He then figured that "king is at the top" which gave him the idea of naming the band "ZZ Top". [6]

This song captivates me still, after 50+ years. Takes me to the deep South and the poverty of some who lived thru truly hard times. And the powerful spirit of a poor young girl being abandoned to her future with only a red dress and her wits to keep her alive. The live/studio flip is just so jarring that it screams to me “contractual obligation” and makes Fandango! a difficult album to rate. But there’s enough quality and swagger to get me to a seven. Let's get the record straight: I am not very keen on the live side. It is a typical 1970s show, where the jams go on for a little too long and the covers make up the majority of the material.
