The first three Cardigans albums were recorded at Tore Johansson's Tambourine Studios in Malmö, Sweden (see the 'Malmö Swede Preachers' box). Recently, however, Johansson has developed a second studio, the eccentrically named Country Hell, in a large house in Skurup, about half an hour outside Malmö, and it was here that 'My Favourite Game' and the rest of Gran Turismo were recorded. Songwriting wise, Gran Turismo evinces continual involvement from the outfit’s frontwoman, Nina Persson. In the beginning on Emmerdale, the lyrics were almost evenly divided between Peter Svensson and Magnus Sveningsson. But on Life and First Band on the Moon, more writing tasks were fielded from the other three members of the group in relation to the arranging and words; notably Persson stepped up for the latter. In the band's break of 2007, Persson recorded the second A Camp album Colonia, [20] which was released in early 2009. A Camp supported the US release of Colonia with a tour, which began in New York City on 26 May and completed on 15 June in Los Angeles. [21] [22] In an interview in 2009, producer and sound engineer Tore Johansson commented on the dark sound of the record, which sets it apart from the warm, jammy feel of many other recordings made at Tambourine Studios: "It's a very cold and defined recording, no natural reverb or audio curtains: there's not a sound element on that disc which wasn't deliberately put there." [11]It is a shame the band have not recorded another album since 2005; Nina Persson recorded a solo album, Animal Heart, in 2014, but there has been very little from her since then. Before going into the studio Svensson had written seven songs in a month, but he had no lyrics. He apparently expected to be in Country Hell for about a month.
