About this deal

For the best color, try clear vanilla extract! It can be found in the party and cake supplies sections at WalMart, Hobby Lobby, or Michael's crafts. I then pipe on the leftover buttercream and add on some more rainbow sprinkles and the best cake ever is finished! I am in love with the sponges and how bright and pretty it is – but the key point to make, YOU NEED TO USE GOOD QUALITY COLOURS. Rainbow cakes are so much fun! They’re colorful, and beautiful and can be made in a variety of different colors. They’re easy to make and can be decorated in many different ways. Plus, they’re a great way to celebrate birthdays or other special occasions like graduation.

Put the log into a piping bag with the open end of the log going into the piping tip. I used piping tip Ateco 849. Then, you mix it all together like normal, and then split into three bowls. It doesn’t matter which colours you do first, but I did red, orange, and yellowtogether, and then green, blue and purple. Grease and line the cake pans with parchment. This will make it super easy to pop them out to cool.Oh hellooo most requested recipe OF ALL TIME. I am not even joking, this recipe has been requested over and over again and I am ~finally~ posting it on to my blog! It’s taken a fair old time as I wanted to get it right! When it comes to baking a rainbow cake, there are many ways you can go about it. You can use colorful frosting or color the batter with food coloring. You can also use edible markers to draw the colors on the cake and make your patterns. First, place your leftover slices on a plate or baking tray. Freeze them for 10-15 minutes until they’re nice and solid. All you need for this one pan rainbow layer cake is a handful of pretty standard baking ingredients. Of course you could buy buttercream frosting or fondant, but my recipes are super easy and delicious!

Use gel food colors, not liquid. Gel gives brighter colors and won’t affect the consistency of the batter. Add the final layer of cake on top, the frost the outside of the cake. Feel free to use my tutorial for frosting a smooth cake, if you like. Just as I have finished the buttercream I carefully press in some rainbow sprinkles to the bottom of the cake for a bit of colour and I just love the design – be warned, sprinkles will fall off at this point so beware! After this, I chill the cake again!Add polka dots. Using water, apply your cut polka dots to the fondant covering the cake. Allow them to dry while you apply any other desired trim or decorations. Add the remaining dry ingredients and mix until well combined and smooth. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed to be sure all ingredients are well incorporated. Do not over mix the batter. Make the batter. In a large mixing bowl with an electric mixer, beat the cake mix, water, oil, and eggs on low speed for 30 seconds. Then, continue to beat the batter on medium speed for 2 minutes. Don’t forget to scrape the bowl occasionally. Chilling your cake before decorating makes it so much easier! I find my favorite method is to wrap the individual cake layers tightly in cling film and chilling them in the fridge before I apply the crumb coat.
