About this deal

Keely Soria: Cooper's ex-girlfriend, who he pretended to like so he wouldn't be found out for being gay. Five students have detention one afternoon. There's Cooper, the golden boy and star baseball player trying to decide between college and the major leagues; Bronwyn, the class valedictorian who plans to follow her family's legacy and go to Yale; Addy, one-half of the picture-perfect couple and a homecoming princess; Nate, the bad boy, on probation for dealing drugs (and still selling them not so secretly); and Simon, the despised (and kind-of feared) creator of About That, Bayview High's gossip blog. They're all in detention for something none of them did, and they can't understand why the teacher doesn't believe them. Well, and that’s basically the concept on which this book is built. Who is going to be next and will they choose truth or dare? I’ve to admit this was an intriguing concept and that I really liked the characters. I already loved Maeve in “One of Us Is Lying” and Knox and Phoebe were two really likable voices as well. I loved that Phoebe was a very unapologetic and straight forward character and that she challenged the narrow-minded perception of people. She’s actually a feminist and I loved that about her. XD

Have all earned a spot for violating one of the most serious rules of high school: NO PHONES IN CLASS. They’ve done the crime, now they have to do the time as well as write a 500 word essay about how technology is ruining American high schools. If they fail to do so, well . . . . Serrao, Nivea. " ' The Breakfast Club ' Meets Murder Mystery in ' One of Us Is Lying ': EW Review". EW.com . Retrieved 14 May 2019. Honestly, there’s really not much to complain about with this book. Though I must point out that it’s more like a contemporary ft. mystery than a mystery ft. contemporaryAlthough the book is cleverly written with lots of witty dialogues, the alternating first person inner monologues among the three narrators are relatively indistinguishable. The book also features cameo appearances from characters of the previous book. They are not directly involved with the plot of this book. Thus, making this installment more of a spin off rather than a sequel. Seemingly out of nowhere, a school-wide text message invites the entire student body to play a little game: Truth or Dare. I have to admit that a big part of why I liked the book so much was because of Nate. Compare to the other members of Bayview Four (the stars of the previous book), I’m extremely elated that he’s being referenced a fair amount of time and tagged along in some of the scenes. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have rated this like I did. Yeah, I know, I’m totally biased and hopelessly besotted with some cliche and fictional teenage bad boy. #SorryNotSorry Simon Kelleher: Self-proclaimed omniscient narrator and creator of About That, the gossip app revolving around the students of the fictional American high school, Bayview High. He is noted to suffer from depression. His death acts as a catalyst for the events of the story, and the rumors and secrets told in his app are what implicate the others in detention as suspects for his murder.

I like your horrible taste in movies and the way you never sugarcoat anything and the fact that you have an actual lizard. Ight, seriously, these 5 kids get in trouble and have detention where they're talking and it's all detention stuff when one of the kids starts choking and having an allergic reaction. he's taken to the hospital and later the four kids find out he dies. His death is all suspicious and now all four of 'em are suspects and we need to figure who dunnit and who's lying. One of the main characters has a golden retriever (named after the author's childhood dog). This is something I like very much! 🐕🐕🐕 I really dunno how long “One of Us is Lying” was already on my list but it feels like it’s been on my TBR forever. *lol* I stand and hold out my hand. She gives me a skeptical look, but takes it and lets me pull her to her feet. I put my other hand in the air. ‘Bronwyn Rojas, I solemnly swear not to murder you today or at any point in the future. Deal?’the characters: I liked Bronwyn and Nate enough to stay I didn't hate them. Not Addy and Cooper though. They were laughable and Addy's whole empowering story line was corny. Also, you're not going to catch me uplifting a bunch of cheaters. And everyone else didn't have a prominent personality and I didn't care for them. Of course, they all have "sinned" at some point. And Simon had dirt on them all, the filthy gossip. Because of that, all four of them previously mentioned were suspects in this murder. Because they had motifs.

Nate: You’re doing better than me. I never stop thinking about kissing you.” ― Karen M. McManus, One of Us Is Lying Addy’s mother is critical of her daughters, stressing the importance of their looks and ability to attract and keep the kind of man who can take care of them for life. Addy turns to her older sister, Ashton, when she needs support. And then I remember why About That was so popular for so long. Because even though I hate Unknown, and it freaks me out that they revealed a secret I thought would never get out, and the idea of another Simon Kelleher prowling around Bayview High is straight-up nauseating – I can’t help being curious. So, even though it is mostly because of nostalgia, One of Us Is Lying is one of my favorite YA mysteries. You can imagine how excited I was when I heard it was getting a sequel.

Episodes

The whole school starts playing Truth or Dare. Some enjoy it and they choose Dare. Some hate it, ignore the warning and an awful truth about them is revealed. Addy’s mother teaches her that the only way to keep a man is to keep him sexually satisfied. She and her boyfriend make out on her bed, and it’s clear she means to have sex with him. Through the course of the story, she begins to question her mom’s advice and eventually decides to take a break from dating and be herself. One of Us Is Next was really predictable. The mystery was barley a mystery and the ending was pretty bad. The characters were fine. I didn’t find them as relatable or interesting as the characters from the preceding book, but they were decently written overall. I think since the POV jumped between so many characters (four or five), their personalities and development suffered a bit. The romance in this one wasn’t as good as the previous book either and felt much too forced to be believable.
