While Cheddar Gorge is the most famous in Somerset (and is well worth visiting!), there’s something immensely special about this gorge which is located so near the city centre. The best thing to do here is the historic Shepton Mallet Prison; you can do a guided tour around which will teach you about the penal system of the UK and go into its 400-year history. Cheddar

The largest town in West Somerset is Taunton and is home to a flourishing high street mixed with large brands and local independent traders. Neighbouring Wellington is a charming town with stunning gardens that are beautiful for relaxing with a picnic. There are a number of beautiful villages in the west includingDunster, which has a castle sitting high above the village, Wiveliscombe and Nether Stowey. In Arthurian legend, Avalon became associated with Glastonbury Tor when monks at Glastonbury Abbey claimed to have discovered the bones of King Arthur and his queen.
