Cars marks the final film of Paul Newman, who in addition to being an actor/entrepreneur/philanthropist also became a racing enthusiast after starring in the 1969 racing drama Winning. Cars is also the highest-grossing film of Newman’s career (not adjusted for inflation).

His pit stop speed is undoubtedly inspired by F1 pit stops, which are typically sub-2 second stops. This is made more evident with he and Luigi being Ferrari fans. The filmmaker team went on a rambling tour of Route 66 during pre-production where they examined everything from roadkill to clouds to roadside icons.

In Cars Land, Guido and Luigi have their own ride at Luigi's Casa Della Tires called Luigi's Flying Tires. In the ride, the guests will get into their own fettucini tires. When Guido turns on the air compressor, air will come out of the holes, and the tires will float in the air. There are also some beach balls with the colors of the Italian flag in the ride, and Italian music will play. Lightning also appears as a playable character in the game's Arcade and Versus modes, again with high statistics in comparison to the other vehicles, and a large number of paint jobs, eight of which can be obtained by collecting them at various locations in the game's explorable hub in story mode. Unparalleled Parking, while some people in town are playing the game, Sally can be seen staring at them. Right before McQueen leaves to the Rust-Eze Racing Center - he and Sally are exchanging with the love-lines.
During McQueen's training trip, when McQueen calls Mater to ask him for help, Mater mentions that everyone in Radiator Springs are missing Lightning, especially Sally.
