I used a circular saw at work (used for cutting aluminium tubing), but it wouldn’t do a full cut. The solution was to turn the shelf over, then end-to-end, for each cut, with the hassle of re-measuring each time. I managed to get better than 1mm precision. Cut the short (vertical) edges first, and use this as a guide for the top and bottom (or left and right!) cuts. If anything, the strength of the screw can damage the shelf when there is significant weight on said shelf. Therefore, it is safer to have more standard steel screws instead of a few very strong ones. Hire a handyman – Finally, there is the option that I can’t speak for. You can call a handyman to help install the shelf. Such contractors charge you for the materials like screws but don’t make you shop for them. I’ve not really tried this option myself because such services would have been redundant. If you want to go all in, you can easily make your wall shelf the centre of attention. Try building shelves around a doorway to create a library-themed gateway. Or let a series of shelves claim an entire wall in the living room for you to fill with personal details. If you have cats at home, why not build a lookout perch for them near the ceiling? Place your pets favourite blankets on a large shelf and position smaller shelves as stairs along the wall. The shelf support rails have these 7mm diameter holes in them as shown by the above photo. These holes do not have threads in them. They simply accept the screws that come through the face of the shelf as shown below.
