About this deal

Outwell is a case in point. They make some of our favourite pieces of outdoor equipment and have a strong pedigree of providing reliable gear and great customer service. The Outwell ECOCool 35L Cool Box is a case in point for a thermoelectric cool box which can operate on both 240V hookup and 12V battery power and provide a substantial amount of cooling power. They use the Peltier method, which transfers heat between two electrical junctions, which creates the cooling function. Thermoelectric cool boxes have a fan that can either draw warm out from inside via a vent or draw warm air inside via another vent—allowing food to be kept cool or warm to outside temperatures. We also like that it has no hidden corners and two drainage bungs, meaning it’s easy to wash out after use. It even doubles as an extra seat and you can buy custom seat cushions to complete the look. Our collections by our couriers are happening as usual. As it stands, delivery times are not being affected too much. Please be aware though that Royal Mail and other couriers are sometimes prioritising essential items so please bear with us if your delivery takes slightly longer than expected. I recently took the Mobicool MV30 on a weekend camping trip, and it turned out to be a lifesaver. The 29-litre volume allowed me to store plenty of food and drinks, including six 1.5-litre bottles standing upright.

Despite being a decent-sized cool box (storage volume measures 63 x 51 x 42cm), the Eco Deep is portable enough to move around when required. Weight is a fairly hefty 17kg, but the presence of a decent folding handle and wheels makes transport simple and efficient. Holidaying with a large group, or throwing a big garden party? In this case, a cool box will likely meet your needs better than a cooler bag. Hot and cold settings on electrical cool boxes allow you to control the temperatures inside. The cold setting will reduce temperatures inside 18°C below outside ambient temperatures. It works by drawing out warm air from the inside via a fan. However, if you’re only off for a picnic or a few days of camping, then a standard ice box should be perfect. Ultimately, cool boxes can make for an excellent addition to your arsenal of camping equipment, and could well make your shopping list when you’re identifying the camping essentials. Why shop at Halfords? Electric coolboxes use the 12v power from your car to keep things cool. If you’re heading away for a longer journey, perhaps for anything from a few days to a few weeks, then these devices are perfect for you - and larger capacity electric coolboxes are better suited to longer trips.Raise a toast to the cool bag. These cool camping accessories keep food and drink ice-cold, whatever the weather. Store your beer, burgers and butter in one of these beauties and you’ll be a happy camper. The advantage of a compressor fridge (i.e. like one you would use at home in your kitchen) is the speed, controllability and power of the cooling on offer. With the Eco Deep Extreme, you can lower the internal temperature from 25°C to 0°C in just 19 minutes which is exceptional. As mentioned previously, you can then disconnect the power so that the insulation is put to work and your food can remains frozen for several hours without using any more juice. One other great feature of the cool box is how it manages to protect the car’s battery from completely running out of juice; it stops drawing current if it senses that your car battery is about to go kaput! Handy when you’re wild camping miles from anywhere. Mains-powered boxes are more powerful, but 12V in-car electric coolers are ideal for keeping in your motor for road trips and commutes. Among the four products, the Mobicool MV30 stands out as an excellent choice due to its impressive features. Firstly, it offers a generous capacity of 29 litres, providing ample space for six upright 1.5-litre bottles. Additionally, its cooling performance is noteworthy, capable of cooling up to 18°C below the ambient temperature, thanks to the double fan system.

The EcoCool offers two cooling modes with a cooling delta of up to 25°C below the outdoors temperature on the MAX setting operation. This means that even on a scorching day, you can still get temperatures close to freezing. Compared with the Mobicool MV30, the Hi-Gear 28 Litre offers a similar capacity of 28 litres, making it a viable alternative for those who require a slightly smaller storage space. While the cooling performance and energy efficiency of the Hi-Gear 28 Litre are not specified, it boasts portability features such as an integrated handle for easy transportation and a lightweight design. What makes Dometic and Waeco cool boxes so good? The broad range of products available from Dometic/Waeco makes their cool boxes a great choice for every level of caravan holidaymaker. The Dometic Combicool RC1200 EGB is a perfect campers coolbox choice. The RC1200 exemplifies the Dometic cool boxes approach. Make a solid, reliable and functional coolbox that outperforms all competitors. Like all Dometic coolboxes, the RC1200 achieves low temperatures with the minimum of fuss. It is quiet, reliable and offers you a choice of power sources. So keeping cool in the summer is no problem with Dometic and Waeco cool boxes. Moving up the Waeco caravan cool boxes range and it is easy to see that a little more cash will get you a lot more storage. The Waeco Mobicool U32/V30 Thermoelectric Coolbox has a whopping 32 litres of storage capacity and is ideal for either in-car or in-caravan use. Like other Waeco caravan coolboxes, the U32 is good value for money. It is CFC-free and as it is thermoelectric can be powered by either a 12V or 230V power supply. It is capable of keeping things 20C below ambient temperature and weighs just 4.2kg. All cool boxes performed OK, but all the electric cool boxes we tested performed better than passive ones.

International Customer

While there are other - often more costly - coolbox solutions available, the huge variety on offer in the Waeco caravan coolboxes range means that caravanners rarely have to look any further. If you want a solid, effective budget solution to you cold storage needs, Waeco caravan coolboxes could be just the thing for you. The 45l ECO Deep offers the convenience of using either AC (240V) or DC (12V) power connection. Current draw is low at only 5 amps, even on 12V power which means a typical 100Ah leisure battery will not get drained until after about 20 hours of continuous operation. As food defrosts, condensation and water will gather in the base, ruining food. So you must remove access water as there is no drainage plug.

The ECO Deep Extreme has several different capacity options in the range. The coolers start at a ‘car-friendly’ 26 litre capacity up to our favourite in the range shown above – the 45 litre giant which has its own carry handle and wheels to help move it around. We’ll concentrate on that one for this review. You may also want to consider the insulation of the cool box, as this can affect how well it keeps your food and drinks cold. A well insulated cool box will keep your items colder for longer periods of time. The cooling capability of the Allied UK 24L Electric Cool Box is impressive, with a cooling capacity of 15-18°C below the ambient temperature, and its heating functionality is equally reliable. It can reach a temperature of 50-65°C with the help of a thermostat. Moreover, the red and green indicator lights efficiently display the hot/cold status, allowing me to monitor the temperature easily. The cheapest cool box in our recommendation is the HI-GEAR 20L Cooler. It is another 12V only system which can cool food and drinks to around the 10°C mark. For the money, it’s excellent value and has a few extra little design touches we like.

So whether you're chilling beer and wine, keeping those BBQ prawns at a safe temperature, or simply stopping your milk from curdling, then Dometic and Waeco coolboxes are an ideal solution. Outwell have taken particular care with antimicrobial coatings on the EcoCool, and in fact it has been treated with a biocidal glass coating inside – this is a special glass which has bug-killing properties and is a real selling point in our view. Hot to trot? Meanwhile, the Dometic RC1700 EGP Portable Cooler is one step closer to cooling perfection. The device is bigger - with a 40 litre capacity - and can reach temperatures 30 degrees C below its surroundings. This means the Dometic and Waeco coolboxes range can cope with even the most amazing of British summers. It is the leader among absorption refrigerators and is the choice when it comes to Dometic and Waeco cool boxes.

If you are camping for long periods in high temperatures, having an electrical cool box will help keep food and drinks cold. As well as prolong the length of time food will remain frozen. However, if you often camp without an electrical hook-up, an electrical cool box is not worth buying.
