You have provided, truthfully, one of the BEST arguments against running Windows at all: “…you have 64G for windows and each time you have a big windows update, you may have to clean your disk…It is possible i guess to fit win10 on 64G but with time i think it is too small to maintain the system…” Again, I hit the Windows key, typed “terminal” and enter to open a terminal window, and then used the “xrandr -o right” command to rotate the display. The GPD XD Plus measures 7.87 x 7.09 x 2.44 inches and features a 5 inch H-IPS display which is vibrant and clear. For some gaming on the side, you can head straight into the action or if you want some extra performance you can increase the TDP to 20W to get more in the performance area of the GPD gaming handhelds. The base model falls in line with our expectations, but pleasantly, the higher-end model is slightly cheaper than expected.GPD has managed to squeeze a full laptop into a seven-inch handheld, which is nice. The Intel Atom processor is not exciting, but an Intel Core i5 or i7 would be out of the question. These processors require more space, much more power, higher heat dissipation and cost three times as much as the Intel Atom, making it unfeasible. I also didn’t encounter any major bugs, issues or strange experiences with Windows 10. Everything worked as expected.

If everything works properly, you should see a boot menu that asks if you want to use the Windows boot manager or boot from the flash drive you just plugged in. Use the arrow keys to scroll down to the flash drive, hit enter, and you should be good to go. As an Android Gaming Tablet it also handles this very well. The GPD XD Plus supports the Vulkan API, it means apps are more optimised and run faster. It can run most systems from the 70’s up to the 2000’s Unfortunately this time there was one key piece of hardware that wasn’t supported out of the box: WiFi. Interestingly, Bluetooth was detected. Another thing that is important to know is that the microSD card speed is limited by the controller and you are unlikely to get much better speeds than the on board eMMC even if you fork out for a blazingly fast microSD card. I suspect the differences may be greater for benchmarks or applications that require a lot of horsepower for a longer sustained period of time. Having it here creates a few problems, first of all it is far from the keys which means that it really interrupts your flow if you need to use it. After having the device for a while I found that I was naturally using the arrow keys and other keyboard shortcuts as much as I could to navigate around as I found it to be much faster than taking my hands off the keyboard to use the optical sensor.

So I turned off the computer for a few minutes to let it cool down, started it up again and ran the test again. This time the single-core test score jumped up to 3159, but the multi-core score was 5755, a little lower than it had been with the fan disabled. It’s not the most impressive sound in a device, small as it is, the audio is good enough to watch a movie, YouTube clip or even listen to music.

It’s also surprising to find a touchscreen of this calibre in such a device. When I give it to people for the first time, they grab the screen and are pleasantly surprised to find that it’s touch-sensitive – and that it works well. Admittedly, the touch targets in Windows 10 on a 7-inch screen are small, but for basic functionality such as scrolling, closing apps or selecting the OK button, it works. I tried the “xrandr -o right” command and I got an error message (I’ve since been told its because Fedora uses the Wayland display server rather than xserver).
