Earthy with a dry woods, it comes together as clean, but definitely has an underlying dirtiness. 80s fragrance, that gives you something different from most modern colognes. However, the irritation remains. Paradoxically, the whole thing is even better than many others on the market, but it makes it all the clearer to me what a giant Zino was at the time. It went on to influence many perfumes - the connection to Heritage(Guerlain) and Beau du Jour (Tom Ford) is well known. It also seems to have influenced Lui (Mazzolari) - which just feels like they undressed Zino. So, less rounded & sweet and more rancid, sweaty, animalic Patchouli. Even Danger (Roja) is definitely influenced by this, via Heritage - a posh modernised variation. The scent combines masculinity, power and seduction. The top note swells just like the sea with soaring peppermint and lavender popping to the surface. I'd love a Davidoff perfume of cigar or tobacco leaves! But Davidoff has not chosen that path, instead ending up in a blue sea of freshness with their hit fragrance Cool Water in the late eighties. The philosophy is to keep the classic architecture in the new perfumes by inserting new ingredients instead of the expected ones.
