If you enjoy a mystery, suspense and time travel story with a hints of “Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle” then you will love this. If you like a book that keeps you gripped and eagerly anticipating the next move, then you will be immersed in this one. The premise is that a mother/lawyer witnesses her 18-year-old son murder a man in the front of their home. This is day zero, or more accurately, night zero. As one can imagine, Jen, the mother, is beside herself. Her son is arrested right in front of her for murdering a man who appears to be in his 40’s. Her son, Todd, is taken into police custody. I smiled at a mention of a place smelling of hoovering....something we all notice but rarely mention but there IS always that smell !! So I liked the observation. I liked Jen's pal Pauline as well. She was a gem. How Jen communicated with Andy also intrigued me each time. That was very well done. To have to keep repeating oneself as she did would have driven me round the twist but the way they got round it was very clever.

One sentence review: A unique take on a domestic thriller that falls short due to an inane number of commas and questionable other writing style choices My first by this author and it is quite a unique, genre and mind bending read. I was invested in the protagonist, Jen, I felt her struggle, her heartache and her motivation. A complex puzzle with many random pieces that ultimately come in place. Then you spot him: he's with someone. And - you can't believe what you see - your funny, happy teenage boy stabs this stranger. Jen decides to find out the details about the stranger who was murdered. She embarks on a challenging yet exciting journey into the past to unravel the mystery behind everything that happened.One half star simply because I really like Gillian McAllister usually AND SHE HAS TWO GOLDEN RETRIEVERS. One cannot give less than 2.5 stars to an author with 2 golden retrievers. And, right then, it had felt, suddenly, like spring, even though it began to rain again only minutes later.If you're wondering how this got through editing, you and me both. She doesn’t know who the victim is, or why Todd has committed such a devastating act of violence. All she knows is that her life, and Todd’s, have been shattered. She can't deal with this. Finding and finding and finding things which she wishes she could forget.

The reason why Ryan remained as Kelly. I understand it was because Joseph would one day get out and didn’t want him to find out that he was undercover. But then it seemed like a silly idea because he has had to spend his whole life in hiding so that the police don’t know and to be prepared for the day Joseph is free. I didn’t really believe this line of reasoning perhaps because there wasn’t enough build up around Joseph and how dangerous this guy was, I’m told not shown. It might be scary to read that they even convincingly pass the polygraph test without getting caught. We can see how Jen catches a person lying convincingly only because she saw the future and is coming to the past from the future. There were so many twists and turns in here, it made for a most exciting time. I don't want to talk them up though, since whether or not you'll be surprised will depend on what you've seen before. As for me, I guessed a few things beforehand, but there were still plenty that surprised me and kept me on my toes. CAN YOU STOP A MURDER AFTER IT'S ALREADY HAPPENED? . . . DISCOVER THE MOST TALKED ABOUT THRILLER OF THE YEAR I found that the middle got a little slow for me and I found myself getting distracted easily. I also had to listen to the epilogue twice to fully understand it. Again, I think reading the book might have been more enjoyable for me.I continued reading with caution — a little curious — but I had doubts of liking the ‘groundhog’ day feeling — Jen is someone I think most readers will be able to relate to. Over the course of the story she feels that she is to blame for what her son Todd has done in the present day when he kills someone. Was she around enough? Did she give him enough attention as a child? It’s the type of guilt that most parents carry as we need to earn a living to pay the bills yet we want to make the most of our children and it can be hard to find a happy medium. She is happily married and has lived in a bubble where she could never in her wildest dreams think her son is capable of murder. So what made him do it? The author tells us that parenting is the most important gift that parents can bestow upon their children. We can see Jen wondering how she managed to raise a child who is ready to murder another person.
