About this deal

What people like can be subjective of course, but these are my favorites so far. Love to hear what other people’s favorite books are. Social, Civil, and Savvy: Training & Socializing Puppies to Become the Best Possible Dogs wastes no time in teaching you how to help your puppy to become confident and happy. It presents a practical approach to socializing your puppy. It also highlights how to improve learning ability and retention over time. This is one of the top dog training books out there and is extremely comprehensive in the subject matters that it covers. E.B. White is best known for his children’s books, especially “Charlotte’s Web” and “Stuart Little.” But he also wrote about what he loved best—his dogs. Now White’s granddaughter has compiled his New Yorker essays and other writings about dogs into a witty collection that showcases both his love of dogs, and his masterful writing. Whodunit? What’s going to happen next? Can this get anymore mind-bending? If you like books that keep you on the edge of your seat, challenge you to figure out the mystery or spark your imagination, these next five novels will be right up your alley. “Watchers”

In any case, he’s been staying ahead of the law for 10 years now, and as he comes of age, his aunt and uncle are waiting to see if he is truly like them or not. Is he a werewolf? If he can recover the lost Zoi – a powerful cosmic weapon – he will be released. Unfortunately, until then, he must live in the form of a dog. Despite the training attempts and pleas from John and Jenny, Marley manages to crash into everything and anything in his path, from walls to furniture. It’s pretty likely you’ve seen—and cried with—the film version of this children’s classic, but reading this Newberry Honor winner is a whole new experience.

Manon Andrevon at the bookshop La Librairie des Bauges in Albertville said: “We’re constantly asked about it by customers and it’s already being bought as a Christmas present, everyone is talking about it.”

For those who are nervous about being the best puppy parent they can be, Dog Teaching: Surviving a Puppy Without Losing Your Mind will certainly help. It provides easy to follow steps to teach your puppy how to be a well-behaved member of the household. It clearly explains the science behind canine behavior and learning. The next task is to determine whether the author has enough expertise for you to trust him or her with your dog’s training. In the books that we listed in the review section, many of the authors were world-renowned experts in dog training, often having their own national television shows or entire organizations dedicated to their training techniques. That is not going to be the case with every dog training author out there. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you should dismiss an author simply because he does not have his own television show. You should look at each individual author and determine whether they have the expertise and the knowledge to write a book on training that will be effective. The Basis of Training Techniques Sporting Dog and Retriever Training: The Wildrose Way: Raising a Gentleman’s Gundog for Home and Field Lastly, I see you seem to prefer Fiction over non-fiction. Have you considered splitting your list into two or more groups?

Apollo tells him that they would be even more miserable than the humans, and so, they decide to make a wager. Focusing on the difference in language between primates and canines, The Other End of the Leash: Why We Do What We Do Around Dogs looks at how human behavior affects dog behavior. Revolutionary techniques teach against using dominance and rough play. It examines what truly drives dog behavior and obedience. Fair warning, this book gets weird and quite unsettling, but it is an excellent depiction of the complicated nature of grief.

While I wouldn't classify Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone as a 'dog book', I would also be remiss if I didn't mention Fang - and, frankly, all the overlooked superstar dogs of children's books. Is it too much to wish, somewhere down the line, that Fang will tell his own tale? Because surely he is braver than J. K. Rowling has portrayed him (or possibly not!) Combining suspense, mystery, the trauma of grief, and the romance of nostalgia, this is one of the more complex fiction books about dogs, as Paul’s efforts with Lorelai mix with his attempts to process the trauma of his wife’s death. What happens when two Greek gods decide to use their divine powers to experiment with the nature of human understanding and happiness? It’s a creative way to freshen up the short story collection, and readers can enjoy comparing the initially imagined progression of humankind to what actually happened, seeing as we have over 70 extra years of events to go by now. After facing death during many dangerous incidents during his infancy, he is the lone survivor of his family.

However, before they left, they imbued dogs with the power of speech. Now these intelligent animals are the last keepers of human history. How to Train your Dog in 7 Days: A Step-by-Step Guide To Teach your Dog to: Behave, Listen, Understand, Interact and Have the Dog you Always Wanted to Have While this isn’t strictly a dog book, it is perfect for animal lovers. This quirky and deeply moving personal memoir sees naturalist and writer Montgomery exploring her life through the personalities of 13 animal friends she’s met in her world travels.

The Must Have Gift for Dog Lovers

This is the foundation that good training is built upon. If you can get your dog to trust you, then you are able to train them properly. If your dog does not trust you, then you are going to have no success with training them whatsoever. Though I usually am drawn toward weightier dramas, I have to admit that I also just love a good, lighthearted romantic comedy. Shhh, don’t tell anyone. Add a dog to the mix? I’m hooked. True Story Vs. Non-fiction. A “true story” is technically non-fiction, but I’ve separated “true stories” to be more of memoir style novels, whereas “non-fiction” is reserved for more training or scientific/informative books. We’ve done an in-depth post about our favorite dog memoirs, so you won’t find too many on the following lists, but I wanted to give a special shoutout to one of my all-time favorite doggy-themed books, Mark Doty’s Dog Years. What this means is that he has the knowledge and experience that will teach you exactly how to overcome the same problems in the exact same way that he did, which make a difference with even the worst behaving dog.
