About this deal

Apart from technical considerations there are also environmental differences that are likely to affect the whisky production – the warmer climate of England’s Southern counties will cause whisky to age in a different way to those in the colder regions of Scotland. To date only a handful of single cask whiskies have been released, which have shown plenty of promise. These include maturation in ex-bourbon and Oloroso sherry casks, plus red wine barrels from Bordeaux.

The brand had already been making beer since the 14th century. But in 2013, their Copper House Gin won the “World’s Best Gin” at the International Wine& Spirits Competition, leading the company to turn to whisky-making. The distillery also uses an ancient variety of heritage rye, barley, and wheat, sustainably grown within the 50-mile radius of the TOAD area. It offers a 500ml bottle of Oxford Artisan 3-Year with 50% ABV for their single grain whisky. When anyone goes up against centuries of tradition – particularly in an industry that causes as much debate as whisky – there are bound to be naysayers who dismiss any newcomers at every opportunity. But English whisky isn’t aiming to out-do the Scots at their own game. Rather, the successful distilleries are trying to carve their own niche and, together, put English whisky on the map as a worthy product in its own right. One that is innovative, contemporary but, above all, of the highest possible quality. Yes, whiskey is popular in England. It is among the top whiskey consumers worldwide, along with Japan, India, France, and the United States [3] .In 2005, The English Whisky Co. Ltd got permission to build the first registered whisky distillery in England for over a century; it first release of single malt occurred in 2009; which became the only English Whisky to have been bottled and released for over 100 years. In 2013 The London Distillery Company began production of the first single malt whisky in London since Lea Valley Distillery closed in 1903. Three other English distilleries, also producing whisky by 2014, were The Cotswolds Distillery, Ludlow Distillery and The Lakes Distillery. Murry, Jim (26 November 2020). He has complete control over every production step of this product, and he also decided to use vacuum distillation instead of the usual pot still methods. Traditional in style, their single malts slowly began to catch the attention of whisky fans after the first bottling in late 2009. Since then, St. George’s whiskies have gone from strength to strength. The core expressions – The English Original and The English Smokey – are often joined by experimental small-batch releases using different cask types.

However, the financially favorable Scotch production led many distilleries to move their businesses to Scotland. And at the early years of the 20th century, Lea Valley Distillery closed, marking the country’s century-long slumber in the whisky business.
