Much like The Last Wish before, Sword of Destiny is a collection of short stories following a talented witcher called Geralt of Rivia. Although you can start the series with Blood of Elves which is where the full-length novels commence, I can't recommend enough that even though a handful of these short stories are hit-and-miss, that they will add considerable depth to the future narrative arcs. I fell in love with Geralt and his story,and he never disappoints with his perspective or his choices. He is relatable in a way that he is not the hyper self-righteous paragon of justice like many fantasy protagonists. He's merely a tradesman, of an albeit interesting line of work, trying somewhat desperately to keep his head above water and do the right thing. There's something of us all in Geralt in that respect. Dandelion isn’t the only familiar face from The Last Wish . In The Last Wish Geralt saves a man from a curse and unites him with his princess love. The man offers him anything he wishes as a reward. Geralt invokes the Law of Surprise, claiming that which the man has, but doesn’t yet know he has. This ends up being a child that his lover is carrying. Geralt hoped the child would be a boy he could train as a witcher. After the exchange Geralt leaves, promising to return in six years to collect his boon. In Sword of Destiny, we learn what became of that Child of Surprise.

In 2011, after the success of the audio play based on Sapkowski's Narrenturm, Fonopolis and audioteka.pl released the audio plays based on The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny. Sword of Destiny, lasting about 15 hours, was voiced by 49 actors, including Krzysztof Banaszyk [ pl] as Geralt, Anna Dereszowska as Yennefer, Sławomir Pacek [ pl] as Dandelion, Joanna Pach [ pl] as Ciri, and Krzysztof Gosztyła [ pl] as narrator. In “The Sword of Destiny” we are finally introduced to Princess Cirilla of Cintra, aka Ciri. I’ve been anticipating her introduction as I know she plays a very important role in the main series. I very much enjoyed her interactions with Geralt. They do not get off on the right foot yet by the end you could see the bond forming between them, even if Geralt was not ready to embrace the bond by the end of this short story. I’m riding with them because I’m a servile golem. Because I’m a wisp of oakum blown by the wind along the highway. Tell me, where should I go? And for what? At least here some people have gathered with whom I have something to talk about. People who don’t break off their conversations when I approach. People who, though they may not like me, say it to my face, and don’t throw stones from behind a fence. I’m riding with them for the same reason I rode with you to the log drivers’ inn. Because it’s all the same to me. I don’t have a goal to head towards. I don’t have a destination at the end of the road.’ That Man Is Dead: Braen used to be a human girl named Mona before she became a dryad, and she suffers a Heroic BSoD after being reminded of it. By the end of The Sword of Destiny, she has finally let go of her previous identity and tells Geralt that "there is no Mona." I liked this short story collection less than the 1st one in this series. The first 3 stories were quite boring and useless and I preferred the on screen version of the last 2 where Ciri first appeared. As the previous book, there is a lot of dialogue and verbal confrontation. There was less fighting and more philosophy . I still enjoyed listening to this volume and I am planning to continue with the series as soon as Ionut Grama will record it (Hurry Up!)i highly recommend sapkowski's books to anyone who enjoys not only the video games and fantasy but great stories as well. they are sophisticated in a way that few novels in any genre manage. the fact that they manage to do so even when translated into english speaks to the superior quality of his storytelling.

Following the theme of “less than human,” we have the short story the “Eternal Flame”. In the story, we explore the difficulty in surviving a world we you are not like everyone else. Given his experiences and who he is Geralt understand this more than anyone. He doesn’t always recognize it at first but in his wise way, he learns from his experiences. We also get to see more interactions between Geralt and his BFF 4-evah Dandelion. This story evaluates something that’s very prominent throughout the series which is discrimination. There’s a lot of exploration of discrimination and otherness throughout the series and it’s done in a way that it doesn’t come out as preachy, it’s a real issue in this world and our own and it’s something that needs to be exposed.

Geralt heads to Brokilon, the Last Forest, to deliver a message to the queen of the dryads, Eithne, from King Venzlav. He finds bodies left by the dryads, along with one survivor, his friend Freixenet, alive but wounded. Dryads accost Geralt and the dryad Braenn agrees to take him to Eithne. Geralt and Braenn encounter and kill a giant centipede threatening a girl named Ciri, who joins them. Ciri likes Geralt, and explains that she is a princess and was going to be married off to Prince Kistrin, son of King Ervyll, but ran away. Mister Seahorse: Played for laughs in A Little Sacrifice, when the mermaid points out she can't mate with the prince, since he as human can't carry her roe in any other way than in a hat. Insane Troll Logic: Where Istredd tries to lecture Geralt on why he, as a Witcher, doesn't have human emotions. What's terrible, though? It works. It also serves as a Breaking Speech. The collaboration arrives alongside Season of the Wish, perhaps a coincidental reference to the first Witcher book, The Last Wish. Bungie also enjoys another easy reference to the beloved fantasy series, with the second Witcher Book being the Sword of Destiny.

And I am supposed to like Yennefer at all ? After research, I've read how Sapkowski brags about her not being a fantasy stereotype, which only confirms that he is only capable of writing either stupid-giggling-just-for-fantasy-sex-girls or cold condescending bitches (still up for sex mind you). Yennefer is the least likable female character I have ever found in Fantasy, and it is not because of unintentional sexism from my part. I don't understand in what world this character was meant as lovable. I genuinely thought that all the textual evidence was meant to foreshadow tragedy and how Geralt could only suffer with someone like this. It is now obvious that it was meant to be also part of the novels, and now I have too much info to really care about her or their relationship. Finally, in “Something More” we see Geralt’s adventures and travels come to a head when he’s accepts that destiny can mean many things, not just death. Geralt was fond of saying that the only thing that was destined was death, yet he learns that there’s more to it than that. You can just carve a path straight to death, life happens, choices happen, and these things can’t always be predicted. The final scene is an absolute tearjerker and I loved it. The opening of Sword of Destiny introduces Geralt once again on his monster-hunting mission, which is his sole purpose as a Witcher. The story follows Geralt as he goes to watch the townsfolk embark on killing a dragon; although Geralt is bound by a Witcher code not to kill intelligent creatures, he still travels to see how the events unfold. From there on the stories consist of Geralt facing mimics, mermaids, sea monsters and druids, alongside partially chasing his beloved Yennefer. Sapkowski's books have been translated into Czech, Russian, Lithuanian, German, Spanish, French, Ukrainian, and Portuguese. An English translation of The Last Wish short story collection was published by Gollancz in 2007.In the following scene Geralt and Yurga hold a conversation about the aftermath of the second battle of Sodden, Visenna's self-sacrifice while Geralt was unconscious and the locals' feelings towards mages, which stem from the experienced battle and its outcome. When Yurga mentions the number of the fallen mages, Geralt shows signs of instability. Enumerating the mages name by name makes Geralt stop his companion. There is no destiny, he thought. It does not exist. The only thing that everyone is destined for is death. Death is the other blade of the two-edged sword. I am the first blade.’ Suicide by Cop: Upon learing that Yennefer doesn't want him, Istredd descides to face Geralt in duel without using magic hoping the later would kill him. La Espada del Destino, nos presenta un puñado de personajes principales que ya hemos conocido de la saga, y que aquí se vuelven más desarrollados a medida que su presencia nos acompaña. Jaskier, el amigo de Geralt y bardo, su misteriosa e indomable hechicera, Yennefer, y una potencial hija del destino llamada Ciri. Si has jugado a los videojuegos de "The Witcher", imagino que estarás familiarizado con estos personajes, yo lo estoy, y admito de buen grado y contento, que no hay nada mejor que un buen libro, es todo más completo, la historia, diálogos, luchas acercamientos y relaciones.

Encontré los relatos en "El Último Deseo" más consistentes, pero dos o tres de mis favoritos son de ese libro lo cual también influye. Estos agregan una gran dosis profundidad a la acción y los eventos que ocurren o ves que ocurriran, especialmente con ciertas complejidades de algunas relaciones. The Bounds of Reason" was adapted in The Witcher television series episode "Rare Species" (1st Season).Hero of Another Story: Sh'eenaz doesn't have much screen time in A Little Sacrifice, but it's her offscreen actions that resolve both the conflicts involving the impending war with the Fish People and her dysfunctional relationship with the local duke. I adored The Bounds of Reason, A Little Sacrifice and Sword of Destiny. Eternal Flame and A Share of Ice were very average. The final story Something More I really struggled with initially. It follows two timelines as Geralt in a fevered state and I sometimes got confused where and when we were. If it was a full-length story I wouldn't have finished it but I did and I'm glad I fought through as the ending is highly satisfying with setting up what can possible happen in the next outings. Yurga wakes Geralt up wondering why the witcher went up there, when he could have been told everything by Yurga. Geralt tests Yurga's memory by asking for the last name of the mage, it turnes out not to be who Geralt has thought. The scene ends by Geralt glancing at all the names on the menhir answering Yurga's question whether Geralt knew the last mage. Go to your game directory and place the folder in \The Witcher 3\Mods\ (if it doesn't exist, make one) The Polish game publisher, CD Projekt, created a role-playing PC game based on this universe, called The Witcher, which was released in October 2007. There is also a mobile version of the game which has been created by Breakpoint Games and is being published by Hands-On Mobile in Western Europe,Latin America and Asia Pacific.
