About this deal

Apply a weatherproof silicone caulk or sealant around the outside where the wired mount and wall meet to prevent water from entering the junction box. The setup process is a little laborious, requiring you to accurately pinpoint on a satellite image the install location of the camera. Then you need to adjust where the camera is looking and what it can see. If you get any of this wrong or it’s not close to as accurate as possible, alerts and mapping of a person’s location will be completely wrong. I do wish Ring used a snapshot taken by the camera itself, instead of a satellite thumbnail for Bird’s Eye View. For the technology the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro Battery includes, and the brand’s typical ease of use, it’s fairly reasonably priced – comparable cameras can easily cost up to a third more. However, it’s slightly pricier than Ring’s Spotlight Cam Plus Battery, which is its more affordable option. When mounted at 9 feet (2.7 metres) off the ground, with the motion detector parallel to the ground, the motion sensor is optimised to detect human-sized objects at up to 30 feet (9 metres). Remove the brown (L) and blue (N) wires. Then, remove the yellow wired mount bonding conductor wire and the home protective earthing conductor wire.

Illuminates and sends announcements to Echo devices whenever motion is detected, and lets you see, hear and speak to people on camera with select Echo and Fire TV devices. There’s no real indication of how long the Spotlight Cam Pro Battery’s battery should last, given that it’s largely dependent on use and the monitoring settings enlisted. Additional batteries state that they can last for months between charges, depending on use and the weather. We found that when set to frequent monitoring, our battery lost 20% of its charge in just three days, suggesting that those who want precise monitoring would be advised to invest in a second or third battery – and be prepared to charge them every fortnight or so. It was disappointing that Ring didn’t see fit to include a second battery, or a bigger battery that holds more charge. Our battery took 5.5 hours to recharge from flat. Since then, it’s evolved into the Floodlight Cam Pro, initially with a wired model followed by this battery-powered version, delivering greater flexibility in terms of where it’s installed outside your home. And while the concept behind the camera remains similar – its purpose being to monitor any comings and goings outside your home – the Floodlight Cam Pro Battery boasts a new lineup of features that make fulfilling this purpose easier, clearer and more accurate. The camera uses the same Ring mobile app as all other Ring devices and appears in a panel on the dashboard along with any other Ring devices you have installed. Tap the panel to open the camera’s home screen and then tap the play arrow to launch a live video stream that can be viewed in full-screen mode by turning your phone sideways. Here you’ll find buttons for initiating two-way talk, muting the speaker, and ending the stream. At the bottom of the screen are buttons for turning the lights and the siren on or off, and there’s a Control button that opens a screen where you can also turn the lights and siren on and off. However, without a subscription to Ring Protect, you won’t be able to review any videos that you missed in real time, and you won’t be able to save your videos or share them with anyone. Photos will not be captured.

The installation height of the Spotlight Cam Pro will impact how effective or ineffective the actual spotlights are in lighting up an area. With two lights, each putting out just 375 lumens of light, the Spotlight Cam Pro is best suited for lighting up an area that's closer to the camera. To put that in contrast, each light on the Ring Floodlight Cam Pro is 2,000 Lumens. image": "//en-uk.ring.com/cdn/shop/files/ring_floodlightcamplus_wht_1500x1500_da0410d8-0b28-442a-b47a-4c48b4c5e8ac.png?v=1688385222", image": "//en-uk.ring.com/cdn/shop/files/ring_spotlightcamplus-battery_wht_1500x1500_9ec34de9-e816-445b-9722-8c47a491f670.png?v=1688385191",Plug your Spotlight Cam into a power outlet Plug your Spotlight Cam into an outlet in the same room as your Wi-Fi router to set it up. If you have a subscription to Ring Protect, you can save videos captured by your doorbell or camera to your Ring account for up to 180 days. Operationally I felt there were a couple of shortcomings as well. First, the siren is plenty loud but it can only be activated manually, not automatically by motion detection as a conventional burglar alarm would. White light flashing? If the light on the bottom of your Spotlight Cam is flashing after setup, it’s updating its internal software. The light will stop flashing when the update is completed. This update can take up to a few minutes. Even though I'd love to see brighter lights in the Spotlight Cam Pro, they've done a good enough job at lighting up the side of my house after the Sun goes down. If I had installed the camera much higher, though, I'm not sure that would be the case. Ring Spotlight Cam Pro review: Video storage

What could be useful, if you have more than one device, is the app’s Modes. These allow you to activate all cameras at once when you’re away, for example, or just the outdoor ones when you’re at home, plus its motion schedule, which enables alerts and recordings while you’re away. Editors' Note: This is the most recent version of the Ring Spotlight Cam Pro. Read our original review from November 29, 2022 below. Without a Ring Protect Plan, you’ll get motion alerts and be able to use the live stream feature, along with two-way talk to communicate with anyone on your property. Ring Spotlight Cam Pro review: Advanced motion detectionNo. You can still use your doorbell or camera to watch over your home and answer the door from anywhere, even without a subscription to Ring Protect. Without Ring Protect, you’ll still receive real-time notifications when anyone comes to your door, and you can answer the notification to see, hear and speak to visitors in real time right from your mobile device. The rear of the Spotlight Cam Pro has a small knob that pops into an adjustable base. It was easy enough to manage, but nowhere near as simple as the Nest Cam (battery), which uses a strong magnet to keep the camera in place. Ring Spotlight Cam Pro review: Price and availability
