About this deal

Come the L-Mount Sigma provides the MC-21 electronic adapter which seem to work quite well with most Sigma EF mount lenses but is not particularly compatible with Canon EF mount lenses.

With a lens that features optical stabilisation, you activate or de-activate it with the switch on the lens even with cameras that feature in-body stabilisation such as the A7r II. The camera will use 3 axes on the sensor and the 2 axes on the lens. It has improved the compensation effect when it is used in combination with the Sony α9, Sony α7III and specific lenses*, and their in-camera image stabilization adjustment is set to AUTO. It has been set to L'eccellente Canon L 16-35 f/2.8 USM III ha nitidezza eccezionale anche a tutta apertura e questa risulta perfettamente mantenuta sulla Sony a7: anche gli angoli estremi sono ineccepibili. I have been puzzled by comments that the MC-11 has worked very well with EF lenses in general and I would have liked to know if it were more widely compatible with non Sigma EF mount lenses than the MC-21 was. For if it is as short on bonus lenses as the MC-21 is then it would only work on a relatively few “modern” Canon EF lenses. In my test of twenty Canon EF lenses on L-Mount it only supported 11 of them and two of them were MF lenses therefore for AF purposes the bonus was 9/18 or 50%.It has become compatible with the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary (Firmware Ver.2.00) and SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Sports (Firmware Ver.2.00).

However, until someone does a side-by-side comparison of both adapters and lots of lenses, we're both just conjecturing. After using the MC-11 converter there is no doubt that the folks at Sigma have managed to produce a solid piece of gear that can open up a entire new spectrum of lenses to those who use Sony mirrorless cameras. The converter is built like a tank, looks great, and falls onto a happy middle ground between higher priced mount converters. What’s better is that with the addition of the USB port the converter can grow with technology giving it staying power in the photo gear world. I already shared my experience for birds in flight ( read the Red Kites article here) where I got an overall 50% keeper rate with the A7r II and 60% with the a6300, which I consider quite good. A6300, 1/2000, f/8, ISO 800 – 150-600mm Contemporary This I fully agree with - but I have the feeling that Sigma having been the only serious manufacturer of an electronic EF-L adapter has been letting the L-Mount side down somewhat - this could be more especially obvious if some EF bonus lenses are compatible on the MC-11 and not so on the MC-21. I would have found this easier to accept if there had not been some fulsome praise in the past for the compatibility of the Sigma MC-11 adapter which I don’t ever remember being put as “great with Sigma EF lenses only”. I don’t remember anyone ever mentioning that it was not compatible with any particular Canon EF lens. As far as the bonus lenses were concerned the bonus lenses did not have limitations. Now just for fun, here are a few images made using the Sigma MC-11 mount converter with the Sigma 24mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art…There are many challenges to designing high-quality mount converter and topping the list is aptly handling phase detection AF in newer cameras and this is where the Sigma MC-11 is groundbreaking in its support for the Sony E-mount systems,” states Mark Amir-Hamzeh, president of Sigma Corporation of America. “The new Sigma MC-11 mitigates complications with a purpose-built lens control data system engineered for maintaining superior AF functionality. So the growing number of Sony E-mount camera users who have been asking for more lens options, now have access to a large pool of lenses that fully embody Sigma’s signature quality and performance.”

It has become compatible with the SIGMA 150-600mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM | Contemporary for SIGMA, that has the latest firmware Ver.1.03. We were keen to try out some of our Sigma EF lenses on the range-topping Sony A7R II to find out what the AF performance is actually like, and if the combination of the worlds' smallest full-frame camera and Sigma's chunky Art lenses actually makes sense (or indeed work at all). The Sigma MC-11 is a mount converter that attaches to Sony E-mount cameras (full-frame and APS-C format) to enable Canon EF-mount lenses to be used. Sigma also makes the MC-11 with the Sigma SA-mount to enable Sigma SA lenses to be used on Sony cameras. Follow this link to view the compatible lens list. I have the Sigma 104/1.4 and four other Sigma DC lenses - all bought for and used on M4/3 camera bodies with Metabones adapters. They work perfectly as do all but one Canon EF lens. The previously mentioned Canon EF 50/1.8 MkII plastic fantastic - which seems a bit of a rogue on all adapters. Basically - to all extents and purposes it is possible to use EF lenses on M4/3 camera bodies without having to research and study lens compatibility lists. M4/3 users can rest assured.

The Sony A7 series is one of the most popular mirrorless systems on the market today, and it’s not just because of the excellent sensors and video capabilities. Since the first release in late 2013, one of the main attractions has been the possibility to adapt 35mm lenses from other mirrorless or DSLR systems. The second generation of A7 cameras (excluding the A7s II) was another big step forward in that direction since their phase detection AF became compatible with DSLR lenses. The idea of the LED light is great as it gives you a clear sign of where your combo stands. When I received the lenses, I noticed right away that a firmware update was needed for three lenses. The LED display on the MOUNT CONVERTER MC-11 makes it easy to know whether an attached lens is compatible or not and whether the mount converter control data needs to be updated for operation with that lens. Keep in mind that the LED indicator light did not illuminate when I attached the Canon lens meaning it is completely non-compatible with the firmware of the converter. With that being said, using a Canon lens with the MC-11 is not outside the realm of experimentation. Just proceed with caution.

Recognising the growing popularity of the Sony A-series, Sigma announced their own lens adapter earlier this year, the snappily titled Global Vision MC-11 Lens Mount Converter, which ostensibly supports 16 Sigma Canon Mount (EF) and Sigma Mount (SA) lenses ( current list here). Going one better than the Metabones adapter, the MC-11 also promises to support the full range of Sony AF modes, including Eye-AF. Ease of Use
