About this deal

Throttled is Lauren Asher's debut novel, and I have to say, I'm pretty damn impressed! I've read a lot of debut novels, and this one is definitely a standout. The author's writing is fantastic, and her knowledge of F1 racing makes the story even more interesting and immersive. I flew through the book with ease, and when it ended, I had a big smile on my face. y’all need to look up the definition of casual in the dictionary bcos i think you’ve got the wrong idea.

I would like to put this line in my review because it's undeniable the most annoying line I have ever come across- "Safe to say yoga is not my workout of choice. Namaste in bed, thank you very much" What does it even mean?? The writing style reminds me a little bit too much of my economic textbook. Please stop, I don't want to be taken there leave me alone- 🥲I probably missed some more, but all these things made me pissed off for at least a good half of the story. this particular repeated sentiment just heightened my awareness of just how much of this book was filler content. it got to the point where id read an interaction or a conversation or an inner monologue and think “swear to god i have already read this??” probably why it took me so long to read and why i then ended up skimming the ending. Also, I hate when authors are describing someone who isn’t white as exotic. There really is no need for that. Her writing style is simple and effective which allows you to come to know the characters. All the race details, pre-race rituals, galas, and everything are very clear in the book. The description of the cities on the F1 circuit is very vivid. You’re right there with the characters, feeling everything they do. A dark-haired, blue-eyed (like the Barcelona coastal waters (this is how it is described by the female lead, I am not joking), 30-year-old American driver. We get introduced to him 2 years before the actual story takes place, when he wasn't able to crown himself as a World Champion.

An active member of the literary community, she has a strong presence online, with a loyal following of readers from around the world. This following continues to grow with each passing day, allowing her to become the writer she’s always wanted to be. Maintaining a public profile both offline and on, she continues to regularly write on a consistent basis, with more to follow. Santi’s sister, Maya Alatorre, just graduated from university and has opted to accompany her brother in the Formula One season. But she hadn’t expected her brother’s teammate, the dangerous bad boy of racing, to fall in love with her. She starts vlogging her F1 adventure, recording race after race and each new location she visits because she has no job. ZAHRA A GIRLBOSS, I loved her so much. We don't get women as strong and as independent as her in fiction very often. AND I NEVER GET TIRED OF THESE CHARACTERS. She's this bright and intelligent person who took hardships in life and used them as a weapon to make herself a better person. THE FAVORITE PART OF THIS BOOK for me was Zahra's relationship with her sister Ani. And Ani was my favorite character. I have a soft spot for disability rep in fiction and THIS ONE was executed so well! I wouldn't say that any of the dialogue she was involved in was very realistic, but I can forgive that one. don't get me started on rowan or should i say the most boring man to ever live . i can't believe i'm saying this but alex from twisted love is 10x better than daddy issues rowan. My life went full-blown Dreamland princess in less than an hour. But instead of a prince on a horse, I ended up with Rowan–the perfect kind of morally gray hero I love reading about. i don’t read books for their plot but the it was SO terrible. maya’s brother is an f1 racer and because she is unemployed, she decides to tag along with him while trying to be a successful youtuber. along the way, she falls in love with her brother’s riVaL noah (he has blue eyes that challenge the caribbean ocean) and because noah (with the blue eyes) is santiago’s rival, maya wants to keep it a secret.

I honestly had such a good time with this story. I was flying through it and it felt like something my mind needed. These idiots were so cute together! I really liked their romance. This is as much romance as it is somewhat diving into their world as race car drivers, which is obviously the entire appeal of Noah Slade. The sarcastic, successful jerk who the media dubs as a playboy who takes no shit from anyone.then he whisks her away to New York and plans a whole book event and meet and greet with her favourite author... then immediately rebukes that she’s his gf. it made zero sense and was so annoying to read. like if he was doing the bare minimum while insisting they were causal, fine. but when they talk like a couple. act like a couple. think like a couple. then they’re a couple. Some parts of this felt cheesy and cliche, the writing was okay, at times it felt like I had to suspend my disbelief. But maybe it only felt like that because I’m not rich? 🥲 Noah is supposed to be 30, but he definitely reads as a 21-year-old frat boy. It was really hard for me to think of him as a 30-year-old man with the way he talked, specifically how he talked about women. That's where some of the cheesy lines and dialogue came in.
