About this deal

The A+ and A tiers cover the majority of the game’s non-Compendium factions and most of these have been in a top 8 recently. Winning with these factions is very possible. Meanwhile, the rules for the Blooded Kill Team reward aggressiveness — which is ironically not the case with all factions. Players will be able to field larger (compared to standard Imperial Guard) sets of units without making any concessions to durability. The faction also includes a new mechanic that rewards consistently killing the opposition with guaranteed hits and other goodies in later rounds. Once they get going, Blooded Kill Teams can be very hard to stop, making them more than a match for the Space Marines in this box. For the metallic parts of both the Traitor Guard and the Traitor Enforcer/Traitor Ogryn, apply Nuln Oil wash. To bring out the details in the skin of the Traitor Enforcer and Traitor Ogryn, use Guilliman Flesh wash. The latest big-box expansion to Kill Team pits the villainous forces of the Traitoris Militarum against the noble Adeptus Astartes in a shadow war that could decide the fate of half the galaxy. They’re also a great addition to your Chaos Space Marines army alongside the new miniatures we showed off on Wednesday.

Sometimes you really want to let your freak flag fly, which is where the collector’s edition of Codex: Chaos Knights comes in. Bursting with all the same great content, this luxury volume comes with silver foil cover text, a ribbon bookmark, and a soft touch cover all showing the proper obeisance to the ruinous powers. Chaos Knight Abominant The well-armed and armoured Phobos Strike Team from the Kill Team: Moroch boxed set is getting a stand-alone release. The miniatures can be assembled as Infiltrators or Incursors and come with an upgrade sprue allowing you to make a range of specialists, including a Voxbreaker, a Saboteur, and a Marksman . Blooded Basically a regular trooper except for his two unique abilities, both of which require APL to perform. Signal (1 APL) , the most directly powerful of the two, allows him to increase the APL of another operative by 1 as long as they’re within 6 inches of him. Sacrilegious Actuation (1 APL) allows him to transfer a blood token from one operative to another as long as they’re BOTH, within 6 inches of, and visible to the Commsman. A key detail is that you have to have a valid operative to reassign the token, otherwise you can’t perform this action, which means you can’t use this ability to snag tokens from doomed operatives and add them to your pool. With this in mind your best strategy is likely to never assign a token to this operative, so that he can be the target of his second ability in times of need. Traitor Corpseman TheChirurgeon: Swing and a miss here. It’s hard to add something that Death Guard would take, but Mutoid Vermin could have potentially been it if they were Troops or didn’t require Gellerpox Infected. As-is, the big guys are basically slow Spawn and if there’s one thing Death Guard and Chaos Marine armies don’t need, it’s more slow units. Intercessors and Imperial Navy both make strong showings, but we have six more factions represented here: Blooded, Veteran Guardsmen, Novitiates, Hunter Clade, Corsair Voidscarred, and Gellerpox. Another good mix to consider.

I think the S tier is self explanatory; Navy and intercessors are the best and most versatile Kill teams in the game with very few (or no bad) matchups. Elucidian Starstriders enjoy the surprise effect and have many tools to deal with almost everything (although they suffer against MEQ). For any additional details like belts, pouches, or accessories, choose appropriate colors from the Citadel range, such as Averland Sunset or other desired colors. Worried you don’t have enough AP at your disposal to get damage through on power armored opponents? Well you can give all your las weapons (except the long-las) the AP1 and Hot traits until the end of the Turning Point. Unfortunately, only 3 of the specialist trooper options come with lasguns, there are only two situations where you want to use this ploy. You’ve decided to forgo taking the Enforcer or Ogryn for standard Troopers, OR all your other operatives are dead and your Commsman has no other choice but to use his lasgun. Excluding the Long-Las from this ploy feels like an extra punch in the teeth from what is an already mediocre ploy. Glory Kill This event gives us two Imperial Navy, Gellerpox, Pathfinders, two Intercessors, one Wrymblade, and one Blooded team in our top 8. So again a solid mix, with 6 unique teams in the top 8, but some repeats of prior events that help us develop a picture of what the top teams may be. In each Strategy phase, after assigning your Blooded tokens (if any), if four or more friendly operatives in the killzone have Blooded tokens, you can select one of them to be under the gaze of the gods until the end of the Turning Point.

On the other side we have the Phobos and Necron teams which undoubtedly need some kind of help. Phobos likely need something to make them more reliable in shooting, while Hierotek Circles desperately need a rework to their resurrection mechanics. Diving Into the Events There’s also some incredible new terrain , recreating the layout of a space hulk on the tabletop in innumerable ways. As the season progresses, you’ll be able to add more walls, pillars, and hatchways, giving you a magnificent terrain collection that will be large enough for Warhammer 40,000 games. The grim lens of the 41st Millennium pans away from Vigilus to elsewhere in the Nachmund Gauntlet – Moroch. This frontier world is hastily preparing a desperate defence in the face of onrushing Chaos forces, who want to eject the hated Imperials and claim the only safe passage through the Great Rift. Another incredibly useful ploy that allows you to give 1 additional APL to an operative that is under THE GAZE OF THE GODS. This has numerous uses, and can really keep your opponent on their toes if used properly. Reward Earned Intercessors and Imperial Navy teams are the only repeats in the Top 8s, and there’s plenty of diversity otherwise – Farstalker Kinband, Veteran Guardsmen, Elucidian Starstriders, Novitiates, Kommandos, and the new Exaction squad all make appearances. That’s a total of 8 different factions across two majors and with mixed terrain and that’s a good sign – it indicates a relatively diverse and healthy meta where some of us are no longer surprised by the rise of Intercessors as the elite faction preferred by competitive players. The Blooded come with the standard 4 Strategic and 4 Tactical Ploys all priced at 1 Command Point. Of the two categories their tactical ploys seem the stronger with a few being so good that players will likely want to always have at least 1 Command Point in their pool to make use of them. Strategic Ploys The first of our extra special… specialists? Should you decide to take the Enforcer over two standard troopers, what you get in return is a combination of melee specialist and force multiplier. The Enforcer comes equipped with a bolt pistol, power fist, 1 additional wound, AND a 4+ save. In addition, he has two unique abilities, Grueling Disciplinarian and Enforce (1 AP) . The first of these allows any friendly operatives that are within 3 inches and visible to ignore the movement penalty from injuries, while the second allows the Enforcer to give a friendly operative a free Dash OR Overwatch action.

Introduced in Kill Team: Into the Dark, the Kroot Farstalkers give us our first non-character plastic Kroot in more than a decade, adding options for heavy weapons and in-unit hounds that Kroot just haven’t had before. In the B Tier we have factions which haven’t seen top 8 finishes but are close to being able to make it. They may need a little help and have problems in too many matchups to consistently win without a discrepancy in player skill to overcome the faction differences. The Blooded have what I consider the best rules yet released for a Kill Team. They strike a fantastic balance between being useful, and incredibly fluffy. You have the option of creating a team of entirely unique operatives, and the rules team seems to really have learned from past mistakes as there don’t appear to be any “broken” interactions. The Blooded have no rules that allow operatives to FIGHT or SHOOT twice, nor do they have the ability to activate multiple specialists in a row, or any other abilities that have been the targets of recent Rules Errata.

The rules for both of these kill teams can be found in the Kill Team Annual. It also includes rules first found in White Dwarf , including those to field a Warpcoven, Hunter Clade, Wyrmblade, and Void-dancer kill teams. There are a host of missions for you to try out new challenges for your special operatives. Phobos Strike Team
