About this deal

This is a guest review from our resident LEGO Star Wars correspondent, vaderfan_2187, who is covering the new 2023 wave of LEGO Star Wars sets.

This isn’t the first time LEGO has made a Slave I in microfighter scale – there was one released in 2012! However, that was a promotional set exclusive to Star Wars Celebration, and while the older model had a less stubby design, I think the 2023 model is more detailed overall.

There’s only one minifigure included, Boba Fett himself. This minifigure is unchanged from its previous appearances in terms of the prints, the only difference being his rangefinder is now missing. At 85 pieces, Fett’s iconic ship fits right in with the Microfighter family. The deep greens and reds really bring the ship to life, and the unforgettable shape of this fan-favorite vessel still cuts a foreboding silhouette for would-be bounties even in micro-size.

LEGO White Boba Fett Minifigure in Polybag (2853835-1) LEGO White Boba Fett Minifigure in Polybag (2853835-1)A lot of the people here in the comments are acting as if LEGO doesn't regularly give Star Wars sets generic names, such as "Anakin's Jedi Interceptor" instead of Eta-2 Actis-class Interceptor, or "General Grievous' Starfighter" instead of Soulless One. I don't like the name change either, but only because of the context behind the change. " Flame yellowish orange parts are placed on the knees, again faithfully recreating the colours of Boba Fett's armour. The spikes on the feet serve the same purpose and demonstrate laudable attention to detail, as well as distinguishing the feet of this model from the two other Star Wars mechs arriving in August. Some fans were hoping LEGO would update the colour of Boba’s helmet to a more accurate dark green shade, but a brand new minifigure might be a bit of a big ask for the cheapest set in the wave.

Quality assurance – LEGO® components meet strict industry quality standards to ensure that they connect consistently and securely for robust builds

The LEGO Star Wars team genuinely was on the verge of greatness with 75344 Boba Fett’s Starship Microfighter: it’s a solid rendition of Slave I that slots very neatly into the wider Microfighter range, while plugging another gap in the long list of LEGO Firespray-class ships. Boba Fett has always been at the forefront of minifigure design and the version introduced in 75060 Slave I arguably achieved perfection! This minifigure thus resembles earlier examples very closely, but actually comprises new pieces. The belt, braided Wookiee hair and metallic silver battle damage have each been adjusted, while the legs include slightly more detail.

Good. Why should great minifigures be unobtainable for younger Lego enthusiasts? And why should anyone care that expensive minifigures will depreciate in value?"

Disclaimer

One nice feature about this model’s small scale is that it can be easily balanced in its vertical flight mode without the need for a stand, which bigger LEGO Slave I sets have been unable to achieve. Despite its bulky limbs, the mech offers reasonable articulation. The shoulders, hips and ankles each include ball joints, while the fingers are individually adjustable. As usual, functional elbow and knee joints would have been great, but dynamic poses are possible even with these static joints, especially because of the large feet. That said, I would only recommend this if you want the Mandalorian-era Boba Fett and don’t already have it – the microfighter is decent but definitely not a must-get. From this angle you can see some of the details – I like the jumbled use of light grey, sand green, and dark green, which gives the model a weathered look even at this small scale.
