About this deal

The key psychic power is Shield of Ynnead to give them a 5++. Since this is an aura effect spell it can really benefit multiple units. I found myself giving this spell to Farseers even if Yvraine had it as well, just in case she died I had someone else to cast the spell. Banshees are a fantastic recpient for this, as again, using Lightening Fast Reactions to get the to -2 in combat, with a 5++ really gives them a ton of staying power. Amidst swirls of ethereal light and destructive reality-folding vortexes, the Ghost Warriors united bring about the full vengeance of the Asuryani dead. Though considerably larger than other Aeldari, the Ghost Warriors come in a number of different forms. These include those described below.

The over-sized weapons of the Wraithguard allow each of them to focus a portion of their psychic power upon a fixed target. The arcane beams of these weapons open a localised rift between Warpspace and the material universe for a fraction of a second. This union is not something that the Asuryani embrace. In fact, most believe it is an abhorrent act of necromancy and something to be used only when no other means of salvation presents itself.

What there absolutely isn’t, I’m afraid, is any reason to try and make a pure Ynnari list. It just isn’t worth it – especially since Harlequins got their big glow-up, there really isn’t any flavour of Eldar or style I could look you in the eye and tell you is better as pure or near-pure Ynnari. Overwhelmingly, expect to see them as either Patrols, the characters slotted into other detachments, or Auxiliary Supports of just the Yncarne. Units The Yncarne The predominant type of Ghost Warrior in use among the craftworlds is the Wraithguard. These giant robotic warriors are shaped from the immensely resilient substance known as wraithbone, and tower above the Spiritseers that accompany them upon the battlefield.

Playstyle

This multi-part plastic kit contains 135 components and an Aeldari Transfer Sheet with which to make five Aeldari Wraithguard or Wraithblades. Wraithguards, supported by a Wraithknight of the Saim-Hann craftworld, take the battle to the Orks. Ghost Warriors were introduced in the 1st Edition of Warhammer 40,000 where both they and their large counterparts known as "Spirit Warriors" served as alternates to Eldar Dreadnoughts. "Ghost Warriors" were originally conceived as being a mechanical robotic walker created by the Eldar to carry out infiltration, assassination and sabotage missions for their military forces. The psychic link between an Aeldari and his identical twin is like no other. Whilst alive, these gifted individuals can sense the proximity, the mood, and even the thoughts of their counterparts with the ease that a normal Aeldari could feel the sun on his skin or the wind in his hair. The bond is so strong that should one of the twins die before the other, the surviving brother or sister will often fade away in sympathy.

Each Ghost Warrior was controlled by the soul of a dead Eldar ancestor drawn from a craftworld's Infinity Circuit. A Ghost Warrior was smaller than the larger constructs referred to as "Spirit Warriors." In terms of psychic powers Word of the Phoenix to heal or ressurect was massive. It kept this unit grinding away all game in almost every game I played during playtesting. Unbind Souls for re-roll 1’s in combat was great too, but I found myself using the stratagem more than the spell. Shield of Ynnead is the other huge winner for the dual sword variety. Access to a 5++ for these guys is a bit of game changer for the dual swords guys and with Yvraine casting it on a 6 its fairly reliable. These I’ll shade with a bit of Drakenhof Nightshade, then blend them up to Hoeth Blue. They get a final edge highlight with Hoeth as well. Though any Power Weapon process you like will work here. The Spiritseer was mainly done with these colours too, but I spent more time giving him a few coats of highlights and shading, given that he’s a character. The addition of metallic colours and the white helm help him to stand out as the only living soul amongst an army of the dead. If you wish, you can then re-roll all of these dice, but if you do, roll one less D6. You can continue re-rolling all of the dice in this manner, rolling one less D6 each time you do, until you are satisfied with the results rolled (or until you only have a single D6 remaining). I long to examine a wraith-construct with the Spirit Stone still intact. Alas, I have studied only fragments of an empty shell and nothing more. It is lifeless and full of mystery. I very much doubt we can understand such dangerous technology with our conventional understanding. In the wrong hands, one can only imagine the danger it presents to Mankind."

Those spirits that burn with hate are implanted into the shell of a construct known as a Wraithblade. Their spirits less willing to be guided than their Wraithguard peers, they are instead armed with devastating close combat weaponry and unleashed upon the frontlines of the Aeldari assault where their strength and savagery can best further the survival of their yet living brethren. Poor Visarch. He’s a force multiplier for Ynnari units, and basically wants you to be taking a lot of them to be worth it. Like Yvraine he had some value in 8th just as a cost effective thing to drop into a mandatory HQ slot you had nothing better to do with, but was less good in that role than Yvraine and is basically garbage now. He’s fine as a random melee dork, but nowhere near the numbers you’d need to slot him in to your now precious HQ slots. Sorry buddy. Maybe next time they revise your rules. Other Units Of course they’re not so hardy that survival is guaranteed, but that’s generally where the fact that I use them as more of a late-game threat comes in handy, as I say above, they’re not a priority target early on, which gives them way more versatility alongside the rest of an army than they would otherwise seem to have on their lonesome.I have to say, I am a lot more drawn to Ynnari now. For one, I don’t feel as constricted when making an army list. I always hated that in old Ynnari, if I wanted to bring a Fire Prism, I was bringing a unit that could only help trigger SfD for another unit, but not benefit from it itself… I feel now that every unit I take has a purpose and can benefit. Sure, my Prism really does not want to benefit, but it *can* now.
