About this deal

Connect to a PC using USB Audio interface mode, and DR-X becomes a tool for voiceover work, live streaming, podcasting and songwriting with studio-quality audio. Built-in microphones work as USB microphones without complicated driver installs.

There is a myriad of ways you can use the DR-05X to enhance your music production. Many popular artists, such as Panda Bear and Bjork, have used field recordings to add additional ambience and atmosphere to their music. I record purely at 96/24 with no effects, pads, or limiting. So far everything has been better than expected. I was expecting there to be a slight dead zone in the stereo field in the center but this doesn't seem to be the case, and off-axis performance is also a lot better than expected, I feel a lot more confident in "setting and forgetting" rather than having to manouever the device to capture on the best axis. If you plan on using this for interviews, and worried about off-axis performance then you should be fine. You can get even more intentional with your process and use your field recordings to splice and make samples out of, which you can then continue to layer and arrange however you feel.DR-05X supports a microSDXC card, which can record longer with larger data capacity. If you record a stereo file at 44.1kHz/ 16bit CD quality, a128GB card holds 192 hours maximum. In MP3/ 320kbps mode, it can record up to 896 hours. Key Features The casing around the USB port is sharp and horrible, and the battery cover feels like it could come off with a litttle rough handling, it hasn't yet, but I am definitely aware of it, which is a shame because the rest of casing feels OK.

Proven high sound pressure design for capturing sounds of up to 125 dB SPL, making it ideal for loud band recordings Menu language can be selected between English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Korean, Japanese, Chinese To maximise compactness and portability, the DR-05X records directly to media cards. microSD, microSDHC and microSDXC cards, up to 128GB capacity, are supported for long recording times even at high audio resolutions. With a 128GB card, the DR-05X can record in stereo for up to 192 hours at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz using uncompressed, BWF-compliant WAV format. 3.5mm Line/Headphone Output Auto recording function that can detect the sound input signal level and automatically start recording The DR-07X is the slightly more competent sibling of the DR-05X. They operate similarly, but the DR-07X delivers better sound quality. If you have a little bit more leeway in your budget, we suggest opting for the DR-07X. Tascam DR-05X vs. Zoom H1n

The all-plastic body of the DR-05X doesn’t make it feel particularly durable. It might survive a drop on the bed or a pile of leaves, but harder surfaces probably won’t be as forgiving. Using the two included AA batteries, you can power the DR-05X for up to 17.5 hours of stereo recording time at 16-bit / 44.1 kHz resolution. For long-duration sessions that require extended recording time, the DR-05X may be powered via a USB connection to a computer or mobile battery or through the Tascam PS-P520E AC adapter. Ideal for Handheld or Tripod-Mounted Use The DR-05X boasts a built-in omnidirectional microphone, which captures sound from all directions, ensuring a comprehensive audio recording experience. Moreover, it includes a microphone input, providing users with the option to connect external microphones for customized recording setups. The microphone input impedance is 18,000 Ω, enabling compatibility with a wide range of external microphones. DR-05X uses only two AA batteries and has ultra-long battery capability. When using built-in microphones, recording lasts 17.5 hours when recording with standard 2ch WAV, 44.1kHz/ 16bit format using alkaline batteries. Also DR-05X can be powered by a USB mobile battery as well for super long extended use.

Apart from handheld recording, the DR-05X can also be used as a USB audio interface with two inputs and outputs, making it a tool for voiceover work, live streaming, podcasting and songwriting with studio-quality audio. The Tascam DR-05X is a perfectly worthwhile candidate for anybody interested in trying out field recording. It’s super affordable, so you don’t have to feel so guilty if it just so happens that field recording isn’t quite your thing. Built-in omni-directional stereo condenser microphone for lively, high-quality sound and high-resolution recording For your reference, rustling leaves is 30dB, light rain is 40dB and conversational speech is 50dB. That means that most natural sounds are within the acceptable range of the DR-05X. Who is it for? A new file can be created manually during recording or automatically when a certain file size is reached

Audio Performance

Recording Media microSD card (64MB to 3GB), microSDHC card (4GB to 32GB), microSDXC card (up to 128GB) Enhance the sonic impact of your audio with the DR-05X's built-in level modes and signal processing. Engage automatic level control to increase or decrease the recording volume when the input sound is too quiet or loud and switch on the limiter to compress the signal before it reaches the point of distortion. If rehearsal mode on while recording, the peak reduction function automatically reduces the input gain to a suitable level. Connect the DR-05X to your Mac/Windows computer or iOS device via USB for real-time bidirectional audio routing. Once recognised and configured, the DR-05X can be used as a USB microphone or 2-in/2-out audio interface for your favourite audio software. For convenient file transfers, the DR-05X can function as a card reader when connected via USB. Powered via AA Batteries, USB or AC Adapter Gain (0 to 90 dB) can be adjusted using the rewind and fast forward buttons while in pre-recording or recording mode. Headphone volume works the same way, except with the “+” and “-” buttons. For reference, the average level of conversational human speech falls around the 50 dB threshold, meaning that you may be disappointed with the amount of noise if you are attempting to record anything quieter. Still, it’s an incredibly workable device. I/O and controls 4.1
