About this deal

Thomas Bond to the Marquess of Hertford, account for laying out Cheylesmore allotment gardens, 1850 (238/7/1), (Coventry City Archives) For Scotland, 2011 data is shown (update coming soon, the Scottish census was delayed by a year unlike the rest of the UK). The following is from the Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. For the most up-to-date Register entry, please visit the The National Heritage List for England (NHLE): The census collection is designed so that each group of postcodes should contain at least 100 people (50 in Scotland).

Stoney Road is rare in that many of its original summer houses have survived, with five of the summer houses individually listed at Grade II. However, these nationally important buildings are at increasing and immediate risk of loss, through deterioration and inappropriate repairs. If they do survive, they offer great access to greenspace and provide well-being benefits. The money will be used to fund the renovation works to the summer hoses on plots 9,13 and 47. The three allotments due to be restored are small buildings that are constructed in various styles and materials, but all built in a traditional way with either timber frames or masonry. Each has individual details and stand-out features like pointed windows and moulded terracotta tiles. In the mid-1930s a strip of gardens fronting Stoney Road to the west was developed for semi-detached houses and Stoney Road, which had previously been a dead end, was connected to the surrounding streets. In 1935 the City Council acquired Stoney Road Garden, which became Stoney Road Allotments. This is so they can be used by the locals within the allotment community. The grant announcement has been made to coincide with National Allotments Week this week. The allotments are only one of five on the National Heritage List for England, all located within the Midlands. However, they all have a risk of immediate loss due to deterioration and infrequent repairs.
