About this deal

Most mics that are used for recording acoustic guitar have arrived via a circuitous route that usually involves a drum kit, or bits of it. It's hard to think of two instruments that are less alike but what works well for miking up a cymbal usually works well for an acoustic guitar too – after all, it's all about capturing transients, clarity and that high-end shimmer. Miking up a set of drums isn’t a walk in the park, even for seasoned studio engineers that have done it thousands of times. This mic comes with a low RF susceptibility that mitigates radio interference so your takes aren’t ruined with unnecessary noise. The first thing we'd notice when looking at the graph is the 3 options we have with the SM81. There are 2 different high-pass filters (HPFs) we may engage: one gentle slope starting around 300 Hz, and a steep slope starting around 120 Hz.

The AT2035 is a great-sounding mic that offers unparalleled value. This mic is for anyone on a budget that still wants great sounding guitars, vocals, and more. The Rode M3 performs very well both in the studio and on stage. It’s a true workhorse that sounds great for all recording applications. It performs exceedingly well, on par with microphones that are far more expensive.

Industry-standard Acoustic Guitar Mic… and More!

This mic is Royer’s flagship product and like most ribbon mics, it features a figure 8 polar pattern. Its sensitivity is quite similar to a good dynamic mic, and it exhibits a warm, realistic tone with a very flat frequency response. In terms of construction, Shure’s SM81-LC is made of the finest steel materials and was designed to last for years. It features a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz, which is comparable to large diaphragm mics. Neumann emphasizes its minimal off-axis coloration; a great feature for recording acoustic guitars with a matched pair in an x-y or near-coincident formation. Getting mic placement right is more than half the battle to getting a sublime recorded tone. Place the mic in the wrong place and your sound will be either weak and gutless, or muddy and indistinct. We'll be exploring the best places to aim your mic and looking at the rudiments of multi-mic setups. Just head to the buying advice at the end of this article. This microphone is one of the best hi-hat mics because it is able to capture the nuances of hi-hat cymbals with a good level of detail and realism.

With that being said, some microphones and gear suit some instruments better than others, prompting this series of articles under “Recommended Microphones And Accessories.” Flat frequency response: Choose a microphone with a flat frequency response to accurately capture the sound of a ukulele. Although the harmonic content of uke strings isn't very strong in the high-frequencies, having extended high-end helps to capture the air and character of the ukulele and room it's in.

The name itself should also warn about its use on many types: anticorrosione means anti-corrosion, what would be the point of such a paint on canvas or wood structures like those of the two Siai trimotors?
