About this deal

There are no buttons on the lens. You switch between AF and manual focusing or turn the image stabilization on/off on the camera. This zoom lens does not have a fixed length like the 12-35 mm f/2.8. When you zoom in, the zoom lens becomes 3 cm longer. A flower-shaped lens hood is included. The LUMIX G VARIO 12-60mm F3.5-5.6 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. has a closest focusing distance of 0.20m/0.66ft and a maximum 0.27x magnification rating, so it's no macro lens, although that's not surprising for a standard zoom lens. Is it sharper then the lumix? Well yes and no, it's more balanced in the hole range. And the micro contrast rendering is nicer. Shooting assist functions including Luminance Spot Meter, Zebra Pattern can be used during RAW output. The main enemies for bad lenses are decentered lens, a smudged lens or serious flare problem in specific shooting conditions.

Sorry, but I still have serious doubts about which is the best 4/3 micro camera body (Panasonic or Olympus) and which set of zooms should I take on the trip? The Pana-Leica is more appropriate if you’re looking for one high quality, all-purpose zoom for 90% of your photography, or if you do a lot of manual video work and could benefit from the smooth focus and zoom rings. The lens is also designed for HD video recording, with silent autofocus and aperture mechanisms. The aperture itself is formed from seven rounded blades and features stepless adjustment, to eliminate sudden brightness jumps in movie footage. A bayonet-fitting petal-type lens hood is included in the box, and reverses snugly around the barrel for transport, while the filter thread accepts relatively petite 58mm accessories and doesn’t rotate on focusing. central sharpness is again very good from open aperture to f/11, good at f/16 and fair at f/22. The edges are not far behind off, being very good at f/5.6 to f/11, good at f/16 and fair at f/22.After reading your suggestions for my 03 Americas trip project, I will take a closer look at taking a new Olympus OM-D E-M1X camera as a second body. I initially thought to take, as a second body, the new Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III, due to the fact that its handgrip is bigger and more ergonomic than that found in my Panasonic DC-GX9 camera. There is no need of upgrading the camera with DMW-SFU2 if upgrading with DMW-SFU2 was once done before. The lens is very compact and balances well on the Lumix GX8. It is substantially manufactured in high-quality plastics, which also assists in keeping the weight down. This is definitely a lens that is a pleasure to use. In summary, the lens starts off very strongly at the wider angles, slowly reducing in sharpness as we zoom. The edges never equal the centre, but become more evenly matched as we approach 60mm. At the widest angle, the central sharpness is outstanding. The low distortion and CA figures are remarkable.

What I am baffled by is the justification of such a below par offering. To say that its poor long end performance would be useful for portrait photographers is like saying that a lens with heavy pincushion distortion would be handy for architectural photographers of medieval buildings where settlement had caused barreling of the window and door frames. If you already own the Lumix 12-60mm, regardless of whether it was bought in a camera bundle or separately, my advice would be to keep it and invest in a few good fast aperture primes, as they’ll give you what neither the Lumix nor Pana-Leica can: a very pleasant bokeh, good subject separation, and the possibility to keep your ISO values down in low-light situations. Incorporating an inner focus drive system and a stepping motor, the new LUMIX G VARIO 12-60mm / F3.5-5.6 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. is capable of smooth, silent operation to work with the camera’s high-speed, high-precision contrast AF system for both photo and video recording. It is also compatible with the sensor drive at max. 240 fps to take maximum advantage of cameras with high-speed AF. Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces an attractively smooth effect in out-of-focus areas when shooting at larger aperture settings. in the case of the 12-60mm for instance , a trio made of the zuiko 2/12mm , pana 1.7/20mm and sigma 1.4/56mm will provide MUCH BETTER results every time’ that’s a huge price to pay for the convenience of a zoomSo as far as weight and size, the Olympus 12-100 is most definitely larger and somewhat heavier, but when comparing all the possibilities, it’s not as big of an issue as I thought it might be. That said, if you’re happy with 120mm at the long end and you want to go as light as possible, the Lumix G85 and the Leica 12-60mm is the way to go. During my recent two months in Europe, I found the 12-60mm to be exactly what I needed most of the time. I will admit, in a perfect world, we all want a bit more range. I’ve never met a photographer yet that didn’t want something more than what he/she was shooting. In the end, you have to make the call on the tradeoff between weight and reach. Maximum Aperture of F/2.8 Can Be An Advantage At first I was tempted by the Leica, but then I thought about what I wrote above. I won't say I'll never trade up, but I do not see a rational justification for it. It will be a matter of "lens lust," not need.

For settings and controls over the BGH1 via PC during IP streaming, LUMIX Tether for Multicam PC software should also be updated to Ver.1.1 or higher. I've been thinking of selling both my Pana 12-60 and 12-35 II, and just settling on the PanaLeica 12-60. Maybe I have a really good copy, but I have not been disappointed with my Pana version and just want a little more that the PanaLeica offers. Before I bought the 12-100, I would have taken the 12-40 Pro and a 40-150 R in my travel kit. Together, those weigh 572 g. Sure, the 12-100 at 561 g is a lot heavier than the 12-40, but weighs less than the other two lenses. I haven't found it too great a burden yet.

Setting sun shines through lavender plants in France. Lumix GH5 with Leica 12-60mm 1/60th @ F/22 ISO 200 sees excellent central sharpness from open aperture to f/8, very good at f/11 and f/16 and dropping to fair at f/22. The edges are very good at f/4 through to f/11, but only fair at f/16 and f/22. At the 12mm end of the zoom range the lens has a diagonal angle of view of 84°, equivalent to that of a 24mm lens in a 35mm system. I had a Oly 14-42iiR, but kept needing wider, so got a P12-32 . Despite it not being as good as my Olympus, I found myself using the Panasonic more because of the 12mm end. I then got fed up with changing between the 12-32 and 40-150R, so looked for a longer lens starting at 12mm- Lumix 12-60 and Leica 12-60. I don't know if there is a variation in production quality, but 4 years ago when testing my Leica 12-60 before I bought it, it outperformed the Lumix 12-60 and my poor copy of the 12-32 by some distance. I use the Lumix 12-60 on a GX8 and have been very pleased with it. Of the many Panasonic bodies and lenses I have use since 2009 I get the most consistently sharp photos with this set. I don't know how much is the optics and how much the stabilization, but something about it really works for me.

The Panasonic 12-60 mm complements the other Panasonic standard zooms. Anyone who wants to have a compact and inexpensive kit lens has a great choice with the Panasonic 12-32 mm. This mini zoom lens has built-in image stabilization and good build and image quality. The Panasonic 12-35 mm f/2.8 is better in terms of build and image quality. This zoom lens is not only extra-well sealed against dust and splashwater, it is also brighter. Unfortunately, the brightness also increases the price. From what you say, I doubt you would notice a difference. The extra stop is nice, I suppose, but with today's high ISO values and image stabilization one stop is not near as important as it was even 4 or 5 years ago.The 12-60 is my main lens and sits on the e-M1ii most of the time and I use it for the majority of my photographs. Compatible lenses: H-XA025, H-ES200, H-E08018, H-X1025, H-HSA12035, H-ES12060, H-FS12060, H-X2550, H-HSA35100, H-FSA45200, H-ES50200, H-FSA100300 and H-RS100400 For still photography I’ve been won over by Olympus. I love the Lumix bodies for their ergonomics but the AF system they use is just to unreliable. I’m still using my Lumix gear for my youtube videos but for serious work I’m using mostly Olympus now.
