About this deal

Not only was the sound quality crystal clear & precise, what I noticed was that it was really balanced too; not leaning too much one way or the other on the frequency range. It’s clean, punchy, and really helps with making the overall action on screen that much more engaging. The LG S95QR is the best LG soundbar we've tested. It's a premium 9.1.5 setup with many features, and its versatile performance makes it suitable for listening to everything from music to movies to TV shows. It has a unique design—in addition to a more traditional front-firing center channel, and there's also an up-firing center channel to improve the localization of voices in the mix. As a result, it's really easy to follow along with the conversations in your favorite content, and you get a slightly more life-like feel. Lastly there are a few more features included that add more choice to the user. By including HDMI-CEC, LG Sound Sync and SIMPLINK if you have a TV that supports any of the above you can use your TV remote to issue some basic commands on the soundbar. This can be very practical in case you want to limit the amount of remotes on your room although for more specialized commands you will still need the soundbar remote or the supported app. However, it doesn’t have a center channel so the dialogue clarity can be questionable. But the LG utilized phantom channels, meaning the left and right combine to try polishing dialogues and sound far better.

Most of us don’t need the very latest in audio tech, so it’s quite easy to save your hard-earned money if you know when to look. For TV brands like LG and Samsung, soundbars is an annual market and they launch new models each year. Brands tend to launch new soundbars in the spring and summer months. The new models will carry a higher price, while previous-year models often go on sale for a much lower price. While we've yet to test the current class of LG soundbar, if LG has capitalised on the immersive Dolby Atmos chops seen in previous iterations and fine-tuned the sound quality, it could be on to a winner this year. Our verdict The bass hits hard, the sound quality is superb, and it looks stylish enough to fit in with just about every room setting. The soundstage was much improved, and made it feel like there was some degree of surround sound even from above. If you have a Samsung or LG TV, getting a soundbar from the same brand might result in some benefits (such as being able to use your TV's remote to control the soundbar). However, there's no real need to restrict yourself to one brand - the core soundbar features will work with all TVs and shopping around can get you can excellent-sounding soundbar for less.Into LG's more budget-friendly 2020 options and the LG SN6Y is a 3.1 channel set-up with DTS Virtual:X, (note the 'Virtual') and a dedicated centre channel. There's no Dolby Atmos support or Google Assistant built-in, but you do get Bluetooth, opticaland HDMI ARCconnectivity. It’s not a small soundbar by any means but it’s certainly not gigantic either. I feel it’s right in the middle given its 35.4-inch frame. On paper, the 2021 flagship LG SP11R – a 7.1.4 channel,770W, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, Meridian tuning offering –is LG's most impressive-looking new proposition, although considering its predecessor's asking fee we'd expect it to come with a similarly premium price tag. The SN5Y is not deviating much from the core principles LG has set for these low cost units. Ease of use, not very complex settings and setup, good quality for the price asked and an overall friendly user experience as this unit is targeting more of a casual market than a hardcore audience. So let’s see if it’s performance remains the same as last year or if LG managed to make any meaningful upgrades in this one. Keep in mind that since the SN5Y is extremely identical to the SL5Y some parts of our review will be the same and we will making appropriate changes whenever we find some differences or if there is something worthy of mention.

Now let’s see what control options are available with the SN5Y. This is another area where the soundbar is exactly the same as its predecessor so our observations will not deviate much from what we said before. We already mentioned above that there are a few built-in buttons placed on the soundbar itself and will let you handle the most usual of functions like input selection and volume control. The LG SN5Y is supposedly the successor of last year’s SL5Y which we had previously reviewed and to be honest upon first look of the specs the two units have awfully lot in common and this was to be expected as we were not hoping much of an upgrade for such a low budget yearly release unit. We mention this because in the higher tier models we have seen slight changes in specs compared to last year so we were curious if there is any change in this one for 2020. Its simple setup is great as a causal user, and the slim design means it’ll fit in your entertainment center.I went through a few playlists spanning a wide variety of genres, and ultimately, the main takeaway I had by this point was this — it’s incredible. Now as far as its performance the SN5Y will certainly offer you a gently boost of sound in all aspects compared to what your TV could output. At the front the soundstage came to life as the SN5Y added certain volume that was missing before and certainly expanded the front sound wall in all directions. Although the soundbar couldn’t offer the degree of expansion beyond its physical limits that we had seen in some other more advanced models it still managed to push the sound slightly further to the sides as well as create additional depth. But if I’m to be honest, the average person probably won’t really care about that and likely wouldn’t even notice.

Well to answer that very question, the first thing I did was play about an hours worth of music to really get a grasp on how well it handled things like clarity, separation, and of course the low end with regards to the sub. Our testing focuses on quality and doesn’t factor in price. So, whatever your budget, you can find a great soundbar. Here are some models that can take your home entertainment experience to the next level without breaking the bank. Here’s the LG SN5Y soundbar review, a comprehensive and helpful guide that’ll help you decide if this is the right soundbar for you!

Now for our review we decided to use the Standard mode as we believe it offers the most balanced output. Bass Blast although it was able to enhance the low end it was not good enough overall making the rest of the frequencies slightly overshadowed by it. For this review we decided to try out the 4K UHD version of Battleship that features a bombastic DTS:X mix. With the SN5Y obviously we will only be able to enjoy the core DTS mix but this is the best we can get out of this unit anyway. Overall then, I think the LG SN5Y is quite the compelling 2.1 channel system that certainly worth it. Bluetooth streaming is also available which means you can stream music from any mobile device like smartphone or tablet to your soundbar. The process could not be easier as you connect your device and streaming starts. We were a bit disappointed to see that Bluetooth v4.0 is still used in this one but at least in our tests we didn’t face any streaming or connection problems. While I did write an article that answers that very question, with this review if I wanted to highlight a system I feel is an incredible performer for a 2.1 channel system.
