Before Nvidia introduced their G-Sync Compatible driver, monitors fell into two categories: Nvidia G-Sync monitors, which required you to own an Nvidia graphics card, and AMD Freesync monitors, which (you guessed it) worked with AMD graphics cards. Now, though, thanks to Nvidia's G-Sync Compatible driver, Nvidia graphics card owners can also buy an AMD Freesync monitor and still take advantage of the screen's variable refresh rate tech. This opens up loads more of today's best gaming monitors for you, too. This monitor isn’t too big, but its circular base takes up more space than the y-shaped stands found on other G models like the AOC 24G2. However, it only needs 8 inches of depth so it won’t displace your other peripherals when setting up. It doesn’t weigh a lot at 14 pounds, but it’s one of the less portable options out there for LAN gaming with your buddies. If you own a FreeSync monitor and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 10-series graphics card upwards (yer GTX 1050s and above etc) and would like to try out G-Sync for yourself, then it's surprisingly easy to enable G-Sync on your FreeSync monitor.
The AOC G2790VX renders 99% sRGB and 93% of DCI-P3 which is excellent for a budget gaming monitor. it also looks like it was factory-calibrated since the deltaE average is only at 2.07 so most users won’t have to calibrate it. AOC claimed that the dE score should be less than 2.0, but we’re happy with what it provided considering how affordable it is. Some retailers have taken to calling everything 'G-Sync Compatible', though, so make sure you consult our list of Nvidia G-Sync Compatible monitors below to make sure it's been properly certified by Nvidia and isn't just a small 'c' compatible monitor. That's not to say that you should steer clear of all uncertified Freesync monitors, though, as below I've also put together an extra list of Freesync monitors I've tested myself that have also worked perfectly fine with Nvidia graphics cards. Moving on, the AOC G2490VX features a wide 93% DCI-P3 color gamut (equivalent to ~126% sRGB) for more saturated and lifelike colors, and it has true 8-bit color depth support (16.7 million colors without dithering). The AOC G2490VX is one of the cheapest 144Hz gaming monitors available, yet it offers plenty of features including wide color gamut, HDR, FreeSync, 1ms (MPRT) and more! Profiling the screen at a graphics card level and creation of the ICC profile– after the optimum hardware starting point has been achieved, the rest of the process is usually automated, while the calibration device makes more accurate corrections to improve the gamma, white point and colour accuracy of the screen. These corrections are made through the creation of the ICC profile which is then activated at a graphics card level. Once finished, the profile combined with the OSD settings in step 1 should give you a good set-up. You can use the ICC profiles available to offer that extra level of correction and they can be easily activated, or removed if you do not see benefit or they do not work on your screen. While colorimeters are good for transmissive media – emitted light (such as displays), spectrophotometers are also good for reflective media (such as paper). So if you want to make sure that what you see on the display is also what you will see when it’s printed out, than opting for a spectrophotometer might be a better idea.
