Unlike glucose, fructose causes a low rise in blood sugar levels. Therefore, some health professionals recommend fructose as a “safe” sweetener for people with type 2 diabetes ( 3).

What is Fructose Powder?

Tandel, K. R. (2011, October-December). Sugar substitutes: Health controversy over perceived benefits. Journal of Pharmacology & Pharmacotherapeutics, 2(4), 236-243

The sugar contents of common fruits and vegetables are presented in Table 1. In general, in foods that contain free fructose, the ratio of fructose to glucose is approximately 1:1; that is, foods with fructose usually contain about an equal amount of free glucose. A value that is above 1 indicates a higher proportion of fructose to glucose and below 1 a lower proportion. Some fruits have larger proportions of fructose to glucose compared to others. For example, apples and pears contain more than twice as much free fructose as glucose, while for apricots the proportion is less than half as much fructose as glucose. Ultimately, fructose is really no better or worse than any other sugar. Nutritionally, fructose is nearly identical to sucrose, both containing approximately four calories per gram. When used in moderation, any undesirable health hazards can be avoided. Your liver metabolizes fructose, turning it into triglycerides–a type of fat ( x). When triglycerides build up in the liver, they can cause serious damage. Triglycerides that make it into the bloodstream also contribute to the buildup of fatty plaque inside arteries, slowing down the flow of oxygen-rich blood throughout the body and leading to heart disease. Fructose is a naturally occurring sugar in an assortment of foods such as honey, fruit and vegetables. It gives fruit their sweet taste and is highly recognised within the sport industry as a low glycemic index carbohydrate, often scoring 25 on the glycemic index. HFCS can also harm your liver. In fact, it may be a leading cause of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), which affects around 80 to 100 million people ( x).The chemical makeup of many alternative sweeteners is different, and studies have just begun to scratch the surface on their possible health benefits or side effects. A number of studies have been done on these sweeteners, with varying results. Some say they are harmless, while others say they should be completely avoided.
