About this deal

For normal printing the printer uses reasonable amounts of ink – I can’t give precise figures, since I’m doing a lot of tests and ‘non-standard’ printing. However it seems on a par with the previous P600.

That’s 937 ppi (pixels per inch). Should I rescale the image before printing to a more reasonable number?

A Recipe for Breathtaking Photos

The display screen on the P700 is well used, with good attention to access to menu and printer functions. The included scanner is useful, though does not have any automatic sheet feeding functions. But combined with the very good photo print quality, this is the best home all in one printer. x 5″, 4″ x 6″, 5″ x 7″, 8″ x 10″, A4 (8.3″ x 11.7″), letter (8.5″ x 11″), 11″ x 14″, B (11″ x 17″), A3 (11.7″ x 16.5″), Super B (13″ x 19″) Hi-Speed USB 3.0 (1 port), 100Base-T Ethernet (1 port), 2.4 GHz (802.11n) and 5 GHz Wireless (IEEE802.11 b/g/n/ac)6, Wi-Fi Direct 6, AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Epson Print Layout for iOS Normally waste ink from head cleaning cycles is dropped into an absorbent pad with printers of A3+ format and smaller. When the pad is saturated it needs to be replaced by a technician or some messy homemade effort applied to soak up the ink. The removable maintenance box is already commonplace in A2 and larger format printers, and when full, it is simply removed and replaced. All neat and tidy, and no mess Charlie! Setting up the Epson P900

Take care with the clear plastic top of the printer – the plastic is easy to scratch. There is blue tape inside as well. I take the empty warnings as suggestions to make sure you have spares, no more. During my printing of this B&W test image I’ve four low warnings. The P700 measures 16.5 by 20.8 by 32.1 inches (HWD) with its trays extended for printing, and it weighs 35.3 pounds. It's less than half that tall and long with its trays closed. That's a 30 percent smaller footprint than the P600.Printing Technology: Advanced MicroPiezo AMC 10-channel, drop-on-demand printhead with ink-repelling coating technology As pleasing to the eye as the prints it produces, this photo printer has been beautifully designed without compromising print quality, reliability and functionality. Therefore the SC-P700 is clean, compact, and its discreet design blends into most creative workspaces or home studios. Also, the Epson SureColor SC-P700 is completely sealed to protect against dust/dirt. Although the maximum print length possible extends to 18m, rolls of 329mm (13 inches) wide paper are only 10m long. Epson has a reasonable range of 13-inch wide light-weight paper rolls. The need for extraordinary long prints – if only for “Happy Birthday” type banners – is not likely to be great, so the 10m roll should be adequate. Matte papers have Levels 3, 4 and 5 and fine-art media have Levels 4 and 5. As there is a considerable difference in the print times from Level 1 through to Level 5, it’s up to the individual to determine personal preferences in the balance between print times, ink usage and image quality. Quality does improve from Level 1 to Level 5, but for most people a compromise will exist in the mid-quality range. Shorter print times exist with matte and fine-art papers, whereas Level 5 on gloss or lustre paper can take a very long time... like 49 minutes for an A3+ print. Switching to Q4 gives a slightly more linear response, but at the cost of a slight reduction in Dmax. Note that for matte papers you only get Q4 and Q5 to choose from. Dmax?

With large format photo printers, you generally expect a very large, heavy printer, but the P700 is remarkably small and light for its capabilities, coming in at 30% smaller than the previous model, the P600. Still, you will need a large desk space to fully accommodate the P700. The P700 replaces the P600, which I reviewed a while ago and found to be capable of very good prints.[ P600 review]. If you’d like an overview of the printer, I’ve made a short video (11 mins) that supplements this review. Outstanding image quality and color— all-new UltraChrome ® PRO10 Ink with Violet produces a wide color gamut for vibrant and rich colorsYou may be able to save a bit of money by purchasing off-brand paper. As long as it comes with accurate ICC profiles, you should be fine, but it wouldn't hurt to research what others say about specific media and, if possible, request samples. Near-dedicated professional photo printers like the Pro-300 are not budget-minded machines, and skimping on paper may give you undesired results. Over the years, I have found that using Canon's inks and papers on Canon's high-end photo printers is the safest way to go. The best color printer for photos will offer a wide gamut of colors and superior accuracy than other models, with prints matching what you would see on a calibrated monitor. If you’ve a perfectly good working P600, then I’m not going to suggest rushing out and buying an all new printer. There are lots of improvements that may tempt you, but to suggest your prints will somehow be loads better is to imply that the P600 is in some way deficient. It isn’t. If you’re currently using a simple office or All-in-One printer then the potential jump in quality is worthwhile. A soft art paper needed feeding from the front slot when I noticed some leading edge marks from the paper feed roller when used with the top slot. Top paper feed
