About this deal

Methyl, ethyl and propyl hydroxybenzoates (E218, E214 and E216) may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed). Special care should be taken when using chlorpheniramine maleate in children and the elderly as they are more likely to experience the neurological anticholinergic effects and paradoxical excitation (e.g. Increased energy, restlessness, nervousness). Avoid use in elderly patients with confusion.

Clarityn Allergy Syrup relieves symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis (for example, hayfever), such as sneezing, runny or itchy nose and burning or itchy eyes in adults and children over the age of 2 years. The syrup may also be used to help relieve symptoms of urticaria (itching and redness), which is often known as hives or nettle rash. The effect of Clarityn Syrup will last a whole day and should help you to continue your normal daily activities and sleep. Clarityn Syrup alternatives Animal reproduction studies have failed to demonstrate a risk to the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Human histamine skin wheal studies following a single 10 mg dose has shown that the antihistamine effects are seen within 1-3 hours reaching a peak at 8-12 hours and lasting in excess of 24 hours. There was no evidence of tolerance to this effect after 28 days of dosing with loratadine. Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrose-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine. Swallow ordinary loratadine tablets with a drink of water, milk or juice. If the tablet has a score line across the middle, you can break it in half if you find it hard to swallow it whole. Do not chew it.Clarityn Allergy Syrup for Kids is specially formulated so that it’s suitable for children aged 2 and over; it is not recommended for children under the age of 2. For infants, Piriton Syrup may be a suitable alternative treatment. Alternatively, consult your GP about the best allergy treatments for younger children. Loratadine has no significant H 2-receptor activity. It does not inhibit norepinephrine uptake and has practically no influence on cardiovascular function or on intrinsic cardiac pacemaker activity. Elderly: The elderly are more likely to experience neurological anticholinergic effects. Consideration should be given to using a lower daily dose (e.g. a maximum of 12 mg in any 24 hours). The anticholinergic properties of chlorphenamine may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision and psychomotor impairment in some patients which may seriously affect ability to drive and use machinery. Loratadine liquid may be easier for children to take than tablets. The medicine will come with a plastic syringe or spoon to help you measure out the right dose. If you do not have a syringe or spoon, ask your pharmacist for one. Do not use a kitchen teaspoon as it will not measure the right amount. When to take it

There is positive evidence of human fetal risk based on adverse reaction data from investigational or marketing experience or studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use in pregnant women despite potential risks. Chlorphenamine, in common with other drugs having anticholinergic effects, should be used with caution in epilepsy; raised intra-ocular pressure including glaucoma; prostatic hypertrophy; severe hypertension or cardiovascular disease; bronchitis, bronchiectasis and asthma; hepatic impairment; renal impairment. Children and the elderly are more likely to experience the neurological anticholinergic effects and paradoxical excitation (eg. Increased energy, restlessness, nervousness). Avoid use in elderly patients with confusion. You may only need to take loratadine on a day when you have symptoms, for instance if you've been exposed to a trigger such as animal hair. Or you may need to take it regularly to prevent symptoms, such as hay fever during spring and summer. After all, you shouldn’t have to choose between your unpleasant lactose intolerance symptoms and allergies! What is lactose intolerance? The intake of the medicine may cause some minor and temporary side effects like nausea, vomiting, dizziness, sleepiness, and headache. These side effects should ideally diminish on their own. But, in case they persist or start bothering your child, it would be best to consult your child’s doctor without any delay.
