About this deal

Tree nuts as the name suggests, are grown on trees. It is possible to be allergic to one or more types of tree nuts as they have similar proteins. This is referred to as cross-reactivity. People with an allergy to tree nuts also have an increased risk of sesame allergy due to cross reactivity. You want to turn the air fryer on to 180 degrees c and heat it up. On my air fryer it allowed me to heat on a ‘cake’ setting, so if yours has a baking setting, use that! Otherwise, simply heat to 180 degrees c. Maybe do a test run with one doughnut to see how it goes in your air fryer. Tree nuts, peanuts or foods with the word ‘nut’ in them can be used in cosmetics such as moisturisers, soaps and shampoo. They can also appear on products with a Latin name. Please see table below to clarify the different names: I have always deep fried doughnuts and was unsure how they would turn out in an air fryer. I was pleasantly surprised and they are crisp on the outside, soft in the middle with a fluffy interior as well as being lower in fat, due to being air fried rather than deep-fat fried. Dipped in a buttery glaze along with a coating of sugar, and filled with jam, they make a great breakfast or treat! What is an Air Fryer?

According to Healthline, almonds contain massive amounts of nutrients. They're rich in healthy fats, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. The best way to include them in your diet to get these benefits is to eat them whole. If you've eaten raw almonds you know it tastes, milky, bland, and not very palatable. Roasting almonds is the easiest method to make almonds taste delicious without any extra calories. Italian chestnuts were available at my local Trader Joe’s store recently and my mother absolutely adores them, so we grabbed a bag. (FYI, the instructions on this bag are how chestnuts are roasted in Italy which is how I am sharing.) This doesn’t include fire roasting, though. Unrefined: Examples include: cold pressed or un-processed such as almond and walnut oil. These may contain sufficient amounts of tree-nut proteins to cause an allergic reaction. These should be avoided by people with an allergy to those specific nuts. Peanut and tree nut allergies are types of food allergy. Food allergy occurs when the body’s immune system wrongly identifies a food as a threat. When this happens, the body releases chemicals, such as histamine, in response to exposure to the food. It is the release of these chemicals that causes the allergic symptomsHeat air fryer to 180 degrees c and grease the basket with oil. Place in the doughnuts and bake for 8-10 minutes until golden. Allergy UK is able to provide a translation card service which can be used when travelling or eating out abroad. (These are available in multiple languages at a small cost from Allergy UK’s Helpline (01322 619898)). These cards have English on one side and the translated food allergen(s) in the language required on the other. Don’t rush the proving : It’s important to allow your dough to rise twice, one in the bowl and the second time when the doughnuts have been chomped/cut out. If you skip any of the proving, your doughnuts won’t grow in size and won’t puff up when in the air fryer. If the dough doesn’t rise, place it in a warmer spot in your house. Chestnuts: Chestnut allergy is considered rare. They are in a different botanical category to tree nuts and peanuts. Most people with a chestnut allergy can tolerate tree nuts and peanuts. Speak with your allergy team if you are unsure. Chestnuts are more commonly seen at Christmas time when roasted at markets Yes, as the recipe suggests, you can air fry doughnuts- yippee. Air frying doughnuts requires a different recipe from regular fried doughnuts, hence the new adjusted recipe. The doughnuts contain simple ingredients, with yeast to help them rise and puff up which makes for super light and fluffy doughnuts. I love making doughnuts and air frying has really taken the stress out of prepping the boiling pan of oil, and the fear of accidental burns. Using the air fryer is a breeze, and it’s a fun way of making doughnuts! Why you need to make these air fryer doughnuts:

Many people who are allergic to tree nuts are only allergic to one type of tree nut, but some are allergic to more. For example, it’s quite common for people with cashew nut allergy to be allergic to pistachios, and for people with walnut allergy to be allergic to pecans. There are a few reasons why your dough didn’t rise – the milk may have been too hot, you didn’t allow the dough to prove for enough time or the dough was over kneaded. Nut oils like peanut or almond oil can be used in cosmetics and toiletries and can be a problem to those with an allergy to those foods. The amount of protein allergen that remains in a product after the processing will vary depending on the processes used. Those with an existing peanut allergy have an increased likelihood of around 30-40% of developing a tree nut allergy as similar proteins are found in both types of nuts. Having an existing tree nut allergy does not automatically mean an allergy to peanut although it is not uncommon to be allergic to both some tree nuts and peanut. Infants with eczema and/or an egg allergy are more likely to develop other food allergies. More about Tree Nuts: Take your time : When it comes to dough, the key is to take your time and not to rush. The magic happens in the proving so make sure it has enough time to do it’s thing! With a sharp knife, carefully cut slit into the soft side of each chestnut. This is safer than cutting the hard bottom. Biscuits, pastries, and cakes with nuts as ingredients (e.g., chocolate brownies, amaretto biscuits, macaroons, almond croissants, Bakewell tart, carrot cake)
