EC2 includes everything a gamer needs in a mouse while staying true to the company’s classic simple design philosophy. We got our full money’s worth after using it for a long time. Pros The first thing you notice about the EC2-A(like with all Zowie mice) is that it sports a particularly discrete design. It doesn’t have aggressive logos or wild patterns on the mouse and the only ‘gamer’ aspect of the mouse is the fact that the scroll wheel lights up. The EC2 is, like all Zowie products, completely plug and play. There’s no need (or possibility) to install software since everything is done on the mouse itself. That’s great news for players who move around a lot such as professional gamers but not such good news for people who like to create a bunch of macros in their mouse software, for example. In any case, it’s Zowie’s philosophy that peripherals shouldn’t need to be used along with software and I think that that’s a good approach if you’re aiming your products at the competitive/pro gamer crowd. The scroll wheel, then, is perhaps the most infamous part of Zowie’s mouse design. The wheel that’s in this EC (and all other Zowie mice) has fewer steps than what you’ll find on pretty much every other mouse. This is great for gaming purposes; you’ll never accidentally scroll a step too far ingame, but it can be a bit of a bother to use for browsing. Combine that with the fact that it’s a pretty loud wheel with very defined steps and you can see why it’s not universally liked. I am personally not againstthis mouse wheel, as it is great to use for gaming, but I can see where people are coming from and wouldn’t mind if Zowie changed this in their future products.

I actually haven’t read an outrageous amount of comments on the durability of the EC2-A. I obviously use a lot of different mice throughout the year (since I have to review them) but some friends of mine have had theirs for years now and haven’t noted any issues. As is the case with every other gaming mouse worth its salt these days the EC2 has a flawless sensor under the hood. With this 3360 you can be sure that every little move that you make will be translated to your monitor with pixel perfect precision. The sensor is implemented as it should and there’s no snapping, acceleration, or any other form of manipulation that can ruin your ability to aim so full marks to Zowie here. The hype around this mouse has been insane in certain parts of the gaming community, and that, to me, is entirely justified. I’m usually pretty keen on finding flaws in hyped-up products or shows (yes, I’m that kinda guy) but I can say with full confidence that this is one of the best mice I’ve ever had the pleasure of using. The scroll wheel is rather loud (at least in comparison to some other gaming mice out there) but it does have pretty satisfying and easy-to-feel steps to it and it’s easy enough to press. The mouse wheel is designed that way to make it easier to use for gaming-related actions, so people who select their weapons (or spells or what have you) with scroll will not accidentally skip past a weapon, for example. I rather liked the scroll, but being that it’s pretty different from most other mice not everyone will immediately fall in love with this one. Build Quality and CableThe mouse two large feet at the bottom of the build for gliding. The linear surface allows for smooth movement with zero problems. The rubber cable is 2 meters and plugs directly into the CPU with a 2.0 USB. It’s pretty lightweight and doesn’t get tangled during long gaming hours. The thin rubber cableis 2 meters (6.6 feet) long, and I love it. It’s very lightweight and flexibleand it doesn’t seem to get in the way at all, even if I don’t pop it in my mouse bungee. I’m not a fan of bulky or braided cables (though I don’t imagine that any competitive FPS player is a fan of bulky cables) so Zowie keeps building on their ‘it just feels so good’ reputation by opting for this type of cable. Sensor and Everyday Performance As a fingertip mouse it might not be ideal (then again most fingertip grippers should probably look towards an ambidextrous mouse) but for everyone else this should be a contender if you want to try out a smoothly flowing ergonomic shape.

That being said: the wheel does perform exactly like it should with no steps skipped and it’s decently easy to press down so you don’t have to worry about the performance at all. One of the top reasons the EC2 is viable for gaming is its strong grip and curve. Comfort should be the top priority if you’re looking to game for several hours at a time. Measurement

Zowie mice are specifically designed for flexible use, with shape and ergonomic use being key focus points. The EC2-Ais definitely a prime example of that design philosophy.

The coating consists of this matte texture with a bit of glossy mixed in, or at least that’s how I would describe it. It’s definitely better than what they tried to do on the EC2-Bbut for me it’s just ‘decent’. It performs fine for both dry and sweaty hands (full disclosure: my hands get sweaty pretty easily so my ingame testing with dry hands is pretty limited) but I’m not a huge fan of the way it feels and the way it attracts fingerprints. Whether you like this particular coating or not is subjective, but if you’re after a rubber/gritty feeling texture this isn’t gonna be it. For me personally they could’ve done away with the slight gloss entirely, as I much prefer ‘pure matte’ coatings. Numerous professional gamers are still using the EC2 religiously without issues, so it’s safe to say that the potential tracing issue isn’t too big of an obstacle. As long as you know how to handle your mouse without slamming it around, you’re good to go. I feel like most gamers looking for an ergonomic rodentwill agree with me on this one.This does mean that you can’t reprogram what the buttons on the mouse do and you also can’t choose which color the scroll wheel will be (as that is dependent on the DPI setting that you’ve chosen) but to me that is no problem at all.
