About this deal

Zombicide, the board game, has taken the world by storm with over 2 million copies sold since its release in 2012 and spawning a cult franchise of cooperative zombie slaying all over the world. In 2020, prepare for Zombicide 2nd edition! All the art and marketing associated with the game - even its name - suggest a recreation of the sort of swarm survival shooters, like Left 4 Dead, that are popular in video gaming. And in this sense, Zombicide succeeds admirably. Starting board states, which often have minimal undead, leave no hint of the chaos that’s about to unfold. Characters get to take their initial steps into the world in relative safety, with a chance to rummage in a couple of rooms for that all-important equipment. Then, within a couple of turns, they’re knee-deep in the undead. Before the beginning of the game, a mission is chosen. The playing area is built with board tiles and features (icons representing cars, doors and objectives) according to the selected mission. Each players chooses one or more survivors to play and everyone places their survivors on the starting area of the board. Some weapons feature a Keep value allowing the survivors to keep them from a game to the next. The more potent a weapon is, the higher the Keep value. Roll as many All-Out dice at the end of each game. The weapon is kept as long as no Break result is rolled. In addition to the new environment, Zombies, and Survivors, this new installment also brings updated rules and new thrilling mechanics that will send a chill up our spines!

Now the only thing left to create is a collection of all rule book missions in another book... And here we are: Throughout the game, survivors may collect better items and gain experience to help them kill more zombies and accomplish their mission. Finally comes the end phase, when tokens are managed, a new first players is determined, and another turn begins. Combat comprises of selecting a weapon, grabbing the required amount of dice displayed on the card, rolling and seeing how many of those dice count as hits, once again, this is dictated by the weapon card. Walker and Runner zombies can be taken out by weapons with one damage, Fatties can only be taken down by weapons with damage of two or more and Abominations need five… or a Molotov. Take a BreathSo, when the board is set, the survivors are selected, it’s time to play. Play always commences with the survivors (players) going first. Each player takes a turn beginning with 3 actions which could be movement, combat, search for gear, swapping kit, opening a door (if you have the right tool), jumping in or moving a vehicle, or perhaps something unique to them based on their individual skill set. You can do combinations of these actions for as many actions that the survivor has available. Play continues round, if a building is opened, that could reveal something unpleasant, and when all players are done the Zombies have a go. In the game, each player controls from one (for 6 players) to four (solo game) "survivors", human beings in a zombie-infested town. In fact, "survivors" hastily change to "hunters" to smash zombies through and through. However, the team must keep the balance between survival and slaughter: as the zombicide's going on, the "danger level" is going up and infected are growing in numbers. [2] Gameplay [ edit ]

All official missions released until December 11, 2020, six of which are divided into two campaigns of three missions (Prefix "A") However, and unusually among cooperative board games, it mandates that you play six characters and follow their actions with a single zombie activation rather than having some kind of enemy phase after each player phase. This can be a little unwieldy at low player counts, giving each player multiple characters to control. You might be wondering, why kill zombies if that means more spawn as survivors level up? Great question, you would think evade, evade, evade where possible and kill as few zombies as possible. Unfortunately the zombies spawn from the pool. If you spawn zombies, but there are none to add to the board from the pool as they are all out, the zombies gain extra activations when they cannot be spawned and then things get very messy for survivors. There’s very much a balance required of zombie management and completing your mission objectives. Team strategy and tactics are everything. Additional ContentUndead or Alive has been stripped down to make a leaner, faster game than its predecessors and that’s all to the good. Not only does it make the game more accessible and exciting, but it leans into the wild west theme as well. Cowboys didn’t wear armor so there’s none here, and with two-action Runners on the board, that two-wound limit between you and a group loss starts to look extremely dicey. Paradoxically, it encourages both greater strategic thinking, to try and stay safe, and more risk-taking because scenarios when you have to chance it become more common. Zombicide is without doubt one of my favourite games and was the first cooperative game I ever played. I was first introduced to Zombicide in late 2012 and this was the very first edition of the game. I didn’t know at this point in time that such a thing as a cooperative game existed. By that, I mean teaming up against the game, as I had worked alongside other players playing against other players in the past. Teaming up with friends in the post zombie apocalypse world, just wow!

TechRaptor stated "The game is fun and challenging if you like cooperative games". [6] An entry from The Encyclopedia of Science Fiction commented on the "complex gameplay" and difficulty. The writer Esther MacCallum-Stewart also praised the digital application that "greatly aids gameplay". [4] Awards [ edit ] Try and avoid finishing a turn in the same space as a zombie as after all players have had their turn those Zombies in play activate, that means they take an action and it is either movement or strike. If they are in the same square as survivors then the survivors are going to get hurt. Had to compress it because of the upload limit, a higher quality version can be found in my Google Drive: As always, point out any errors I may have made. I tried to be even more thorough in my hyphen-hunt, but still, a few may have slipped through. So I took it upon myself to collect and bring together all official missions in an unoffical Compendium #3.
