About this deal

You can easily change the cutting height from two centimetres up to seven centimetres, using a handle by the front wheels. My lawn was a little overgrown before the first use, so to avoid battling with long grass, I set the mower to it's highest length to trim it ahead of trying a lower grade. This was unnecessary based on use since – the mower makes light work of even dense couch grass and weeds that have been left to run wild. The handle folds away for easy storage so it won’t end up taking up masses of space in your shed or outbuilding. Furthermore there are two feet at the rear of the mower allowing you to store this product vertically, saving even more space.

While the handles cannot be adjusted to accommodate different heights, they do come with soft cushion to help reduce vibrations and any fatigue when using it. Most will find it comfortable to use for the 30 minute runtime. Grass Collector and Edging Higher settings a good choice for lower maintenance gardeners that mow less frequently. Keep the blade hight and you won’t remove too much grass at any one time, avoiding issues like scalping while encouraging healthy lawn development. For example, the easy-start feature is far more preferable to the pulling/recoil method of the petrol lawn mower which, if you’ve ever used you will know, can be a nightmare and often painful to start. The easy-on safety switch works like a charm. WORX WG743E.1 User Manual The consensus among other reviewers is that this is a great mower for the price, comparing well with much more expensive cordless models and not significantly more than corded or petrol mowers either. Gardeners World also granted it a Best Buy badge. The noise level is relatively low compared to other mowers on the market. The motor produces a gentle hum, which is much less jarring than the sound of a petrol mower. This makes it a more pleasant experience for the user and any nagging neighbours within earshot. No specific noise-reducing features are built into the mower, but the cordless technology replaces any typically whirring engine. DurabilityThe 4.0Ah also weighs more than the smaller, 2.0Ah so this might affect your decision if you are looking to powershare the battery with other Worx tools. While a heavier battery is not that noticeable in a mower, you might want to use the lighter 2.0Ah in things like cordless drills. However, the 4.0Ah is comparable in size and weight to the large batteries I have used on cordless drills from multiple brands and well worth the extra expense if you want the benefit or longer cutting times (a must for larger gardens). The WG779E.2 is equipped with one 34cm wheeled metal mower blade that gives them two very effective benefits…

My first cut was on long, messy grass. There are patches of couch grass in my lawn and a few straggly dandelions so I thought I might have left it a bit long between cuts. You can change the cutting height using the lever on the front of the mower and on my first cut I left it high as I thought it could benefit from a pre-trim. In retrospect it didn't need it and would have handled the longer patches of grass with ease (and has since). This is the first cordless mower I have used and I was warned that the tech involved often makes them quite heavy. That certainly wasn't an issue and I found it easy to move around and take out of my small, cluttered outbuilding.

When we test mowers we like to try all of the features. I have tested the full range of cutting heights, and used it both with and without the mulching plug. I have tested on both wet and dry grass, and used it for frequent trimming versus that first mow of spring when the lawn is a little unruly. On the whole, you’re getting a pretty decent mower with the WORX WG743E.1 and it’s difficult to see that there are many cons to report. However, if you are looking for a downside, this could be that there is no roller for creating a stripy lawn – if that takes your fancy. The Worx WG779E.2 is a well-built, sturdy mower designed to last. My only gripe would be that the cutting blade may need replacing after a certain amount of use, but this is a standard maintenance requirement for most mowers, and it’s easy enough to do yourself or take it to a professional. Additionally, you may need to replace the batteries more often if you’re using the mower frequently or in particularly tough conditions (such as on hilly terrain or in wet weather). WORX 40V WG779E.2 Verdict Once the height has been reduced to 30mm it is already at the maximum permitted height for a further reduction down to 20mm. So you either cut it again immediately – which also breaks the rule as it is like going from the height it was at before the reduction to 30mm all the way down to 20mm but in just one cut – or you wait until it has grown higher than 30mm when it is too long to reduce it to 20mm anyway! Granted, it is not the cheapest cordless lawn mower in the small to medium yard game. But it is still budget-friendly and you get extras like the mulching option, roller and wider range of cutting heights, that aren't on the most affordable models. The eco mode is really useful if your lawn has been cut recently and you don’t require the additional power to cut longer grass with the turbo mode, this eco setting does extend the mowing time considerably.

The rotary blades are made from steel which is an extremely durable metal so you know that, even if you run into an unexpected obstacle, you’re not running the risk of causing any significant damage. Besides, you can replace the blade after serving you properly, and the installation process of a new blade is as easy as ABC. Also the power system is completely electric so it produces zero emissions and works extremely quietly. Which is quieter? Well there’s not much between them but I would say that the WORX is slightly quieter due to the “Mute technology” that WORX claim makes their mower barely audible from 10 metres.I really struggled with this mower to find any downsides. The features are great and all seem to work well for a mower at this price point. The build quality cannot be faulted and it performs as it should.
