About this deal

I love to see the submissions for this competition as they are always full of great ideas, creative as well as quirky, with the environment at the heart of the designs. This year’s the standards were high and the ideas were brilliant, making it really hard to decide on the winners. Well done to everyone who entered.

Entrants to the 2022 competition were challenged to answer ‘How should we be travelling in the future whilst considering the natural environment?’ Children were encouraged to take inspiration from Wallace & Gromit’s iconic inventions and consider how the design could be both fun and sustainable. The BBC has a long and successful relationship with Aardman and this announcement follows the success of the latest Shaun The Sheep caper The Flight Before Christmas which aired on BBC One over the festive period. Audiences can expect a performance promising fun for all the family with a short concert by players from the band, followed by the fantastic film, with original score by Julian Nott arranged and performed by the WFEL Fairey Band.Aardman, an employee-owned company, is based in Bristol (UK) and co-founded in 1976 by Peter Lord and David Sproxton, is an independent and multi-Academy Award® and BAFTA® award winning studio. It produces feature films, series, advertising, games and interactive entertainment

Aardman has today announced its plans for the 30 th anniversary celebrations of Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers. Sunday – 13:30h – Swaledale Festival – The Garden Rooms at Tennants – Leyburn (3-10 GBP / ) ( link) Released in 1993, The Wrong Trousers was the first film starring the beloved duo to win an Oscar and introduced fan favourite Feathers McGraw, a villainous penguin with ambitions to put Wallace’s inventions to criminal use.Following its enormous initial success, Gromit Unleashed went global with a trip to Hong Kong. The Grand Appeal teamed up with Aardman to create 70 new spectacular sculptures in a first outside the UK. It’s great to see that the competition is helping the next generation of creators and innovators understand the importance of protecting their original ideas. I would like to thank the teachers, parents, and helpers for encouraging the entrants and helping them grow their understanding of intellectual property as an asset for life. Encouraging and educating young people about the importance of IP will help build on the UK’s proud history of creativity and innovation, helping secure their future and make life better for all. The 30 th anniversary celebrations coincide with the production of a brand-new Wallace & Gromit film – the first since 2008’s A Matter of Loaf and Death, which was the UK’s most-viewed TV programme of the 2000s with over 16.2 million viewers tuning in to watch. This brand-new, as-yet untitled adventure will premiere exclusively on Netflix around the world except in the UK, where it will debut first on the BBC before also coming to Netflix. It is set for release in 2024. Nicola Masters, director of The Grand Appeal, said: “We had no idea in 2013 that Gromit Unleashed would grow into the global brand it is now. Personally, it’s one that is incredibly close to my heart. It’s been nearly 30 years since The Grand Appeal was founded.

Adam Williams, the Chief Executive and Comptroller General of the Intellectual Property Office ( IPO), has expressed his admiration for the young innovators. He said: Entrants were tasked with transforming the infamous ‘Techno Trousers’, from the Oscar ® winning film Wallace & Gromit: The Wrong Trousers, into a force for good. The inventors, aged 4 to 11, showcased their boundless creativity in devising innovative solutions that prioritise our planet’s well-being. The release of a limited edition The Wrong Trousers x Olympia Le Tan designer clutch bag featuring Wallace wearing his ‘Techno-Trousers’ alongside Gromit and Feathers McGraw.Wallace and Gromit: The Wrong Trousers screening accompanied by WFEL Fairey Band (dur. Approx 30 mins) It was a joy to see all of the fantastic inventions from more young creative minds this year. We were blown away by the oodles of creativity, ideas and inspiration taken from Wallace & Gromit, from tea powered engines to cheesy vehicles! Well done to all who took part. Now, we are ready to embrace Bristol’s pioneering, innovative, creative spirit and Gromit’s inventiveness to deliver a new sculpture trail in Bristol in 2025, with our partners at Aardman.” In the Key Stage 2 category, the winning entry was ‘The Moon Rider’ from Evie-Moon Cleary at Westcliffe Primary School, Scunthorpe; a litter collecting boat that is powered by the wind, sea, and sun, a great use of renewable natural resources. The runner-up in this category was ‘Wallace & Gromit’s Tea Wagon’ from Jasmine Jayde Chin at Ysgol Nantgwyn, Tonypandy; the wagon has an offering of any type of tea you desire and is powered by used teabags. An inventive way to reuse the teabags that would have gone to waste. Undoubtedly this will be another brilliant addition to our city’s summer calendar. I’m sure fellow Bristolians will be excited to see the newest designs of Aardman’s iconic characters out on our streets before they are auctioned to hopefully raise millions more for such an inspiring charity.”

over 1,000 young inventors stepped up to the challenge and helped Wallace & Gromit make the ‘Wrong Trousers’ right performances of The Wrong Trousers with live orchestral accompaniment, staged by Carrot Productions, taking place all over the UK to mark 30 years since the film’s release.
