This can be due to the addition of natural or artificial flavors, or to the use of colorants such as indigo or blue food dye.

The basic recipe of every Crème de Violette liqueur is quite similar. Violet flowers, petals, and buds are steeped in a spirit base like brandy or any other neutral spirit. Added sugar lends the liqueurs its sweet taste and an ideal texture. The exact recipes vary from product to product. What tonic goes with violet gin? This is a question that many people may be wondering about, especially those who are new to the world of gin.First concocted by Shannon Fristoe, the General Manager and beverage director of Bayona in New Orleans, this drink is reminiscent of a stormy morning. This is due to the fact that it is made with sugar and other sweeteners. In addition, it has a floral flavor that is reminiscent of violets. This is why the liqueur is named after the flower. Crème de Violette languished in obscurity for the next few decades, falling out of both fashion and recipe books, with drinks that had previously employed the liqueur simply leaving it out all together. Enterprising drink-makers seeking it out were forced to use the more widely available Crème Yvette (violet-based, but with the additions of vanilla, orange and raspberry) or Parfait d’Amour (curaçao-based, with flavors of rose, violet and orange) in its place. Crème de Violette is an easy-to-drink floral liqueur that isn't overly complex. The subtle floral flavors made it easy for me to enjoy it from the first sip. However, I can imagine that the perfume, flowery aroma, and flavor might not be everyone's cup of tea. So I went to visit the crystallized flowers factory museum Florian located in the village right across my valley in Pont sur Loup. This gin sour uses Empress 1908 Gin because although it has a brilliant blue-violet hue, it’s actually quite classic in flavor.
